Well know that i got a few down the pipe and am shooting most loads full bore, the end of my thumb is getting ripped up by the crisp edge of the hammer.Anyone else have that problem????I was thinking of putting a radius on the hammer sides to avoid this.A reasonable solution me thinks??? Never had the problem with either of my BFR's in 45-70 or 500 Mag, but if you are, why not put a radius on the hammer sides.

Is the hammer hitting your off hand in a 2 handed hold??
If so reposition your thumb, so as to svoid hitting it at all... thumb

What kind of hold gets you near the hammer????
Are you whimping the hold so it rotates the hammer into your thumb?
I can't picture any way the hammer would bother you.

If one holds the revolver in such a manner as to wrap the tumb of the off hand over the shooting hand behind the hamer, when the gun rolls in the hand under recoil the hammer can hit the thumb of the off hand..

I too am trying to figure out how you are holding it that the hammer is hitting your thumb. Explain your grip, please.

A two handed hold like on all my Revolvers. When it rolls in my hand it scrapes the top inside of my Right thumb.I noticed it when I started shooting 400 gr. bullets over 1300FPS.I put my right thumb on top of the left thumb.I have big hands and it places the thumbs up high.I radiused it so end of story. OLBIKER, I still can't picture it! Both of my thumbs are on the side and not near the hammer...... Confused

OLBIKER, change your hold. I use my right hand to hold the gun and my left hand to support the gun. My left palm is where the bottom of the grip sit's and my left thumb sits under my right thump. That will solve your problem all together.

I have big hands too. I wear a glove size 11. If you change the way you hold your accuracy will improve as well. Your right thumb should be above your left thumb, not on top of it. I have a Freedom M83 .454. I changed my grip and voila better groups and I can still hold the SA. I did the same thing with similar results for my sig220.I know 45acp is a pop-gun comparatively, but it made a HUGE difference. I have not yet magnaported my .454, but it is coming.

Andy: Before you Magnaport your FA, try to shoot a Magnaported gun next to an unported gun. I have shot a 6" FA M83 ported and unported with identical loads. The conclusion both of us arrived at was the porting made no discernable difference in recoil impulse. It made a huge difference in sound reaching the ears, especially any bystanders. After paying for a porting job, my shooting companion sent his handgun back to FA to shorten the barrel and remove the porting.

Andy, if the recoil is too much, load it down. You don't want to make that .454 louder than it already is!
