Thinking of rebarreling a XP to one of these cailbers.I bought another one or might do it with my 300WSM XP. Any thought on this, barrel life, receiver stress,is the WSM case the max voulme for a 15 inch barrel, bigger case less pressure more velocity. Don't know, any other things that you can think of that I should look at or worry about.Any ideas???????? Wade

The Remington Ultra Mag cases are way too long to fit in the XP-100 action. MM

Yes I know it is to long to chamber it.But I have a removable bolt stop on the side of the gun.I will have to remove the bolt to get the fired case out.Just like I have to to do to get unfired 30WSM ammo out. That one was easy, done have that one solved. Thanks alot any other ideas. Wade

Handcannon, I have a question a bit off the topic if you will entertain me. What kind of muzzle velocity do you currently get with your 300wsm and with what load. I have been talking to Savage about a custom shop Striker with a 15" uncompensated bbl. Any insight will be greatly appreciated. mvm

Handcannon, Well friend, I think your even over my level of recoil in the big XP's. From the magnums I have tested in the XP's and Encores, I would say that the WSM or Lazz. short mags are about as large as practical for the 15" barrel. You may get a bit more velocity with the RUM case but the increase would be very small. Also, with the much longer RUM case, you will loose an extra inch of usable barrel, again reducing velocity. In my opinion the WSM and Lazz short cases are the biggest one should use. That said, if you choose to use a caliber of say .375" and up, one can use a much larger case. For instance, a 458 RUM would be much more efficient out of a 15" pipe then a 300 RUM. Recoil is another story. Good Shooting!!! 50

Last winter, I saw two XP-100s; one was chambered in .416 Taylor, the other in .458. The action will take it (I don't know if the stock will); barrel life would be good, since you're not likely to shoot it all that rapidly (or that much). Go for it! Please let us know how it works out. George
