I feel silly for saying this...especially with my Member Name and all....but I just RE-joined the ranks of the .45 auto shooters today.

I've owned scads of military 45s before. Some stock and some tricked out to various degrees. And I've owned several different models of commercial Colt 45 autos, including a fine shooting Gold Cup.

I thought I would ALWAYS own a .45 auto...then one day I woke up and realized I'd traded off my last one! [Eek!]

Don't get me wrong, I've still got a small herd of some mighty fine pistols....but it just ain't right for a man not to have at least one .45 auto. [Roll Eyes] At least that will be the story I tell my wife if she notices something new in the stable. (And she don't miss much! [Eek!] )

Anyhow, I broke down and got me a plain Jane Kimber Custom II. Haven't even fired it yet. But I plan to remedy that Thursday. Am going to drop a couple hundred thru the thing just for grins.

This is my first Kimber and my first impressions are. The Kimber "black oxide" finish, or whatever they call it, looks like cheap flat black paint. I hope it lasts better than it looks. (But that's what you get when you go cheap.) My other impression is, "How can they build a gun this TIGHT!"

Every .45 I ever owned had a little slop SOMEWHERE...but the Kimber is like a bank vault! [Eek!]

I think after a few hundred rounds of hardball, it will wear in and be more better.

Sigh, now I gotta hook up my Dillon SDB and start building some ammo. But it will be good to use up those boxes of 45 brass and cast bullets laying around the garage.

Anyhow, I just wanted to thank all you guys for helping make up my mind on a Kimber and for some suggestions on loads. Hopefully shooting a .45 will be like swimming and I won't have forgotten how to handle one. I've got a lot of fond memories of adventures with this old cartridge. [Smile]

Let the good times roll.

Pecos congrats on the purchase!! No man should be without a 1911. You know, the gun just fascinates me in the sense that its design internaly by John B. is so unique. Things NEVER had to be that hard, but he took that root anyways. Too me the 45 is such a part of history, and a mechanical wonder... BUT from an engineering standpoint it is no wonder to me why it is hard to get them to shoot accurately.
I hear kimber does a good job, but never even shot one. I have 2 colts 2 AMTs (one is a longslide!) One colt is schedualed for a complete make over that I will be doing personaly for my dad, I will rust blue it when I am finished.

I agree 100% the 1911 is the handgun that I carry and will bet my life on, everyone would benefit by owning one (imho). Greg

Thanks guys. That's the way I feel about it too. The .45 is like baseball and apple pie. You ain't American if you don't love at least 2 out of the three. [Smile] I wouldn't take for my .357 and .41 mags...but now I've got it all with a 1911 back in the stable. [Big Grin]

Pecos- I have a Kimber,Ilove it! I too have owned a bunch of various other 1911's,the Kimbewr by far is the tightest one I have owned. they are also very accurate, hitting milk jugs at 50 yds(with a little elevation on the sights!)no problem. Also If you like shooting 22 lr look into one of the conversions,I bought one probably shot 5000 rrds of 22lr through it!
Also I have shot about 2000rds of hardball through my pistol, still locks up tight!

Diesel - I was wondering about those .22 conversions and how they work. Are they accurate? Do they function as well as they should? I've always sort of look at them with a suspicious eye. And of course I've already got a super Ruger automatic .22 that's pretty similar. Still, I'm intrigued.

Thanks for your input!
