Go to http://www.lexingtonleader.com/story38.shtml and check the story. The .454 should never be fired by someone so small. I fired my son's .454 and it made me realize I don't need anything that large. I am sorry for the parents of the boy but I smell a major lawsuit coming. At the very least against the owner of the .454 Ruger Super Redhawk if not against Ruger and the manufacture of every large caliber handgun made(S&W and their .500 for an example). Gees I can just hear the Gun Control nuts now. Heaven forbid that our Governor Arnold girlie-girl Schwarzenegger should hear about this. His next move would to be getting all Big Bore handguns banned. Lawdog

Like you, I feel bad for the parents of the boy. I would be devastated if I lost a child. However, this is just another example to prove that common sense is anything but common anymore.
I never thought a gun could have so much recoil and muzzle flip. I have seen a lot of youngsters shoot 44mags at the out door pistol range. I guess with ear plugs and eye protection they need to insist on using hard hats for anyone under 18yrs. This is a terrible way to die when it is so avoidable with some common sense. But as you say common sense is not so common anymore.
Well,,with that posted,,my son might not get to shoot my big bores 'till he can curl 120 lbs easily. What in the hell were those idiots thinking when they let that kid pull the trigger on that pistol,,A chance to laugh at his broken wrists? I watched my .357 whack a co-worker one day,,Right between the eyes,,,drew blood.Been rather hesitant on letting other people try my pistols since then.Clay

what the hell kind of load did ya have in that .357 ?? my wife has shot my model 27 with full magnum loads and had no damage........ she would rather shoot her late father's .38 snubbie colt but she did handle the s&w ok too..........
158 gr jacketed softpoints stuffed with copious amounts of ww296,,I stayed within the guidelines,,Though at the top of them,,Run through a 10" contender,,The guy started out at full arm extension,,then screwed down on the sights and pulled the trigger before I could stop him A bad experience for both of us,,So any more,,,I shoot my stuff, you shoot yours.Clay

I think that recoil is a very subjective thing and differs greatly from person to person. My wife has shot full house loads in a 475 Linebaugh without a problem. My Dad however complains about his 22mag revolver. I think he should wear ear plugs and it might not seem so bad. It is truly tragic for the boy to die, especialy under those circumstances. I had my 6yo son out the other day blasting cans with a 410 shotgun. He really had a great time with it, but I wouldn't think of giveing him a 3" 12ga buckshot load.

I shot my best friends 12ga Mag once when I was about 12yrs old he slipped in a 3"mag buck shot load it knocked me on my ASS it was years before I would even consider shooting a 12 gauge again. My friend laughed so hard I thought he was going to die. It was not a bit funny to me.
