So I just bought a used super redhawk in 44 mag and I notice when dry firing that if I don't let the trigger go forward/return all the way (before it gives a little reset click) after the first squeeze, the trigger gets stuck? When I give it a harder squeeze the trigger group goes loose towards the back... resulting in a 2-3 milimeter crack between it and the frame. Then the revolver would be inoperable until I push the trigger group back. I remember reading something about how you should always let the trigger go all the way forward but I've never heard of the trigger group getting loose. Is this normal for ruger double action revolvers? Anyone with a super redhawk, GP-100 or SP 101 please try this on your guns and tell me if this is normal since I think these are basically the same design... Is there anything wrong with my gun? This kinda worries me. Thanks ..........

Does not sound normal to me. Mine doesn't do that. It should work every time you pull the trigger. A new trigger latch spring or a latch pin might be the anwser. You have play there for some unknow reason.

That's normal when firing double action. FWIW Were I planning to hunt with an SRH I'd spend most all of my time practicing from single action.
That's not normal. I wonder if your revolver would benefit from a careful disassembly and thorough cleaning. If the problem persists I'd send it to the factory to make sure the previous owner didn't booger it up. Good hunting!

Okay I dissassembled the revolver and cleaned out the recesses and lug thingies on the trigger guard... And it was fixed! Turns out the trigger guard latch didn't/couldn't fully engage with the recess in the grip frame because of the carbon build up. But a new problem was encountered!!1 I thought that the mainspring seat was suppose to go into the lower part of the grip frame cut out. And I also thought that the mainspring seat was upside down from the actual position! I found out that something was awry when I turn the gun on it's left side and dry fired. The trigger got stuck. The mainspring pin was getting caught on the seat thingie, because the whole thing was loose. Thanks to the exploded parts diagram in the manual I found out where to put the whole main spring assembly. I had one HELL of a time putting it all back together without the disassembly pin... a metal fork had to do. I'm glad I don't have to send it back to ruger(maybe I'll call them about a replacement disassembly pin though). PHEW! Through all this disassembling and attempts at reassembling I've learned a lot about the inner workings of my revolver. Now, after all of this... WHERE IS MY GUNSMITHING DEGREE???!!1 My 44 magnum is all good & reliable now. Thanks for all the replies! ..........

Ah, the joys of used guns. But on the other hand it just goes to show that Rugers are built tough enough to be idiot proof. The previous owner shot how many rounds thru it like that ?????......................JJ " venator ferae bestiae et aquae vitae "

You thought that was tough try taking a freaking Dan Wesson 44 mag apart and put it back together with out any directions. I was about to get out the Cutting Torch and teach it who was the boss. Luckly one of my friends had an exploded diagram that I could hardly see, but he helped me through the reasembly. If Dan Wesson only made there revolvers as good as Ruger they might still be in business. BTW I took my new Ruger Super Red Hawk apart and removed the burrs inside it because of a rough trigger and the cylinder did not want to rotate. A little gun oil and all is well now. And yes if you don't get the trigger group snaped together properly the trigger won't work. Why did you change your user name I thought "The Dork Lord" was cool. I know, The Dork Lord is soo awesome sounding... like I'm Aragorn or something. I think someone said that it makes me sound stupid and nobody will take me seriously. I think I'll change back.... ..........
