I shot a hog last week with the Corbon Factory load featuring a 300 grain jackted soft point at an advertised 1300 FPS. he shot was 50 yards (lasered). At the shot the hogs all ran straight toward my blind, as I lined up for a follow-up shot they turned hard to my left and I believe that shot missed. When the hog turned i saw a 2 to 3 inch red spot exactly were I wanted the shot to go. I got out of the tand and follwed in the direction of the hog. I saw blood as on some brush as they turned left into the brush.. The following picures is of the blood that I found

When I ran out of stalks there was no more blood. All blood found could have only came from the entrance side. I do not believe that the bullet exited.... I never found the hog...

How big was the hog, jwp? Another reason to use heavy hardcast bullets.......

That sucks, sorry to hear about it.

That's why all my handgun hunting is with hard cast bullets. Good penetration with little expansion. Hard cast for me please. clap

If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

HARDCAST is indeed the way to go... When a 300 grain bullet does not exit on a bradside shot, well that is unactceptable to me.. I tried the load and will not use it again on game.....

No doubt hard cast are very good for pass thru's but I loaded up some 44mag 300gr JHP Noslers over 20gr of H110 which my son shot out of a Colt Anaconda on our Missouri hog hunt and both shots went clear thru the shoulders of a 350LB hog, at roughly 50yds leaving behind some very large holes and a massive amount of blood. He ran about 75yds after the first shot but the 2nd put him right down. The damage done was massive. Hard cast are not the final answer. Yes, I also shoot hard cast.

I have been down the jacketed road, I have taken quit a few deer and hogs with them. Nobody said they won't work, but shot placement is key. Myself I like penetration, I don't worry about hitting a hard bone ever with my cast bullets, I know it will go right through and bust it up. Many of deer, hogs and bear have fallen to my hard cast bullets.

I'm curious as to which 300 grain jacketed bullet is used for this load.

That's exactly my philosophy. I want the kind of penetration that will hit the vitals and pass through from any and every angle presented. Expanding bullets are limited to certain shots IMHO.

The best kind of hole in a piggie is one that bleeds at both ends. My family stil at times use jacketed bullets but all on deer when it comes to piggies are goats/sheep it is hard cast with a big flat end that will punch through anything that gets in the way be it gristle plate, skull, or shoulder bones and STILL make two holes. Break them down in the front end and you don't have to go looking for them.

Exactly! Any angle and two holes -- two BIG holes!
