Maybe this is a 'reloading forum' post, but since its practical application would be handgun hunting, I thought I'd put it over here...

First up was a 41mag Super Blackhawk hunter, 7.5" bbl, 2x Leupold eer.
18.0 grains H110, 270 LFN from Leadheads bullets.

1278/1284/1256/1244/1281/1267

The above 41m load groups 2.5" at 100 yards, from sandbags and perhaps would do better with a better shooter. It stands as a personal best for me with a handgun 2x scope combo of any kind.

Next up was 5.5" Ruger Bisley 45Colt
22.0 grains H110, 300 Grain lasercast.

The 45 load was 'brisk' and I switched to a PAST glove part way thru the day.

Sounds like the 41 load is a winner with that kind of performance and accuracy.

Thanks - I've been very happy with that 270gr Leadhead bullet... It is a tad heavy for that bore size, but it shoots very well.

If I'm lucky I'll take the 41 out for deer in the fall.

A tad heavy for bore size!? Don't sell the 41 short.

I used a 293 hardcast in my 4 5/8" ruger to get the same velocity you get with those 270 grainers. With one more grain of the same powder you are using.

Of course I never got little groups like your getting. Maybe I'm just a bad shot. I could hit a 10" gong 50% of the time at 200 yards offhand though.

It sounds like your after accuracy not max power. I just get defensive when I think someone is underestimating the 41's power .

I think that accuracy and contrallability is the way to go as long as you have enough power. It doesn't do any good to have the biggest gun in the state if you can't hit anything with it. I don't think that there is anything wrong with the 41. The main responce I've heard from 41 shooters is the reduced recoil makes it better, but I don't have a problem with recoil so I've always gone bigger. My Brother has a S&W 41 that is terribly accurate, this would be a good argument for to me for getting one.

I was shooting my little 41 with a friend from work who was shooting 3 colt anaconda 44's. One was his and two he had rented from the range. He brought a bagfull of ammo.

I asked him if he wanted to shoot my 41 and he did once. He handed it back to me and told me I should warn people of the recoil before letting them shoot my pistol.

Its just a little 41 mag .

I don't think my 270gr load kicks too bad. But it did shake one of the Ruger scope rings loose from the bbl. The ring stayed in place, but the cross screw that clamps onto the bbl is long gone.

It must've happened just as we were leaving, because I didn't notice until I went to clean it later that night.

Guess I'll need to call 'em up and see if they'll send me just the screw, I'd hate to have to order a whole new set of rings.

Power is great Accuracy is better. Just my 2c.
