Not being a rifle shooter, I have very little experience with, or knowledge of, scopes and scope manufacturers. I have one scope...(actually just bought it yesterday)...a Leupold M8 2x20mm that I put on a SRH .44 remington magnum. I am pleased with the performance of that scope...and, having heard many good things about Leupold, I expect good performance for years to come. I am considering purchasing a Nikon Monarch pistol scope in 2.5-8x 24mm for a Ruger SRH .454 Casull. Does anyone have experience with Nikon Monarchs on handguns? Do they have good optics? Can they take the recoil of full house .454's? What about eye relief through the variable powers? TIA for any thoughts... hunter20ga

hunter20ga Never used the variable, but I own 3 Nikon 2X pistol scopes and I'm very pleased with them. Haven't used them on anything bigger than a 44 Mag Contender though.

I have the 2x on a 480 ruger. Good optics and has stood up to the recoil well. The Butler Creek caps occasionally fly off under recoil, but the scope has always held zero.
