Anyone have a mild load for a heavy .45 ACP in an S&W 1917? I'm thinking a mild load with a 300 gr WFN would be reasonable with all the room in that cylinder. I know there are 45 LC Triple locks as well as these ACPs. So a hard, long, slow bullet should penetrate nicely on whitetail. Maybe a backup for hogs if I don't take the SRH. Lots lighter anyway. TIA. Packy

300 WFN in a ACP? Too much of a good thing. This is a lot like playing in traffic. You can do it, but it ain't a good idea. Just use some of the 45 Auto Rim cases and stick to 260 cast bullets. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

IIRC, there was a bullet manufacturer (not a major)that made 300 gr HP's specifically for the .45 ACP. The bullets had a rebated boat tail as to not bulge the case when seated. I'll do some research and get back to you. Praise be to the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

I agree with Hitman here. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Member of the Delaware Destroyers Member Reeders Misfits NRA Life Member ENDOWMENT MEMBER NAHC Life Member DSA Life Member

Looks like maybe a 260 gr jacketed with 5.0 to 5.5 max of Unique. The bullet has a rebated boat tail and some lead showing. We'll see when they get here. Packy
