Anyone have a mild load for a heavy .45 ACP in an S&W 1917? I'm thinking a mild load with a 300 gr WFN would be reasonable with all the room in that cylinder. I know there are 45 LC Triple locks as well as these ACPs. So a hard, long, slow bullet should penetrate nicely on whitetail. Maybe a backup for hogs if I don't take the SRH. Lots lighter anyway. TIA. Packy

300 WFN in a ACP? Too much of a good thing. This is a lot like playing in traffic. You can do it, but it ain't a good idea. Just use some of the 45 Auto Rim cases and stick to 260 cast bullets.

IIRC, there was a bullet manufacturer (not a major)that made 300 gr HP's specifically for the .45 ACP. The bullets had a rebated boat tail as to not bulge the case when seated. I'll do some research and get back to you.

I agree with Hitman here.

Looks like maybe a 260 gr jacketed with 5.0 to 5.5 max of Unique. The bullet has a rebated boat tail and some lead showing. We'll see when they get here. Packy
