I have killed a lot of big game with a revolver and for a lot of years and there is no way in hell that an X-frame S&W appeals to me. They are too large and heavy thus defeating the main purpose fo a handgun which is to be with you at all times because it is portable and easy to carry all day. All taken with body shot none needed more than 1 shot _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

I have no use for the X-frame either. Just too much and not necessary for a hunting revolver. Don't care for the .460 S&W round for that matter. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

The 45-70 is .458 bore diameter, the 460 is .451 bore. The .458 bullets are designed to penetrate large game at those speeds. The .451 revolvers bullets are not, except for the Punch Bullet which works more like a solid _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

In addition to the punch bullet, barnes buster, beartooth cast, all the barnes xbp bullets and swift a frames perform well at that velocity and do quite a bit of damage. Though none of that helps ya carry it on a hip holster

It's a fair question, and as my experience is with the 480 I wholeheartedly agree. I've found a 400 gr cast @ 1200 fps from a 7 1/2" barrel is all I want in a sixgun in terms of recoil. I've fired several 475's and those few extra grains of powder and extra ~100 fps makes for a signifcant jump in recoil. The 480 can drive 400 gr cast bullets over 1300 fps if you have a mold cut to allow the bullet to be seated out to the end of the cylinder aka 475L powder capacity. But, recoil is back up there. That said, if I was getting a custom single action I'd request it was chambered in 475 linebaugh simply because it is the standard .475" caliber handgun round. Load it as needed. It still want to have FA build me a premier mdl 83 with a 6" octagon barrel and both 480 and 475 cylinders. One of these days. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

..well I gave up. Rather than have two cylinders or types of brass hanging around I just found two boxes of Hornady .475 brass like the box that came with the gun... So I'll just stay with the short nose LBT designed bullets and they will take up a lot of powder space that I don't need at this point anyway... Bob

Bob that is a good idea. That is one reason I quit loading my light loads in 44 Special brass for my 44 Mag. I got tired of changing my dies and keeping the brass seperate. I now just use 44 Mag brass for all my loads. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
