I was wondering if anyone here has any leads on any cheap Texas exotics. I'm from NM and have hunted there a few times, but I am looking for maximum whack factor. I'm talking about does and hogs. If anyone has any info where I (we) can get in on some handgun action for exotic does like Sika's or Fallows, Or Axis or whatever please pass it on. I've got an addiction to feed, but I'm just a blue collar dude.

"Thompson Temple Texas Wildlife"

Been there, done that.......wouldn't go back on a dare!

Extremely filthy living quarters (shoes stick to bathroom floor because of urine build-up, bird crap on the furniture and inside of windows, mouse crap on the counters in the kitchen and dead spiders literally covering the floor!) and morons showing a complete lack of gun safety (knowlingly shooting over other people's heads, shooting next to the "cabins")..... nothing done about either problem.....in fact, Thompson encouraged us to watch for animals to come through near the "cabins" at mid-day and shoot one if we wanted! We could have walked up to many of the "exotics" and killed them with a hammer.....

There are good ranches for exotic hunting....Thompson's isn't one of them......

Oh, did I mention that one of Thompson's "guides" shot and killed a hunter (with his son watching) while taking a rifle out of the truck??????

Years ago, when he first started up, Thompson Temple had a good thing going. I've heard various things and can confirm none, but most agree that money went to Temple's head -- and things went downhill from there.

I've hunted one of his ranches once and would never do so again. There are many others to choose from. But if you want a "canned" hunt, then Thompson Temple may be the way to go. His "wild" sheep wouldn't move away from the vehicle.

I have hunted numerous other ranches, and exotics can be as challenging as whitetail, particularly the blackbuck antelope, which has eagle-eyes and inhabits the open areas, and the aoudad, which live in the steepest, rockiest terrain they can find. Unfortunately, my favorite exotics outfitter (Lone Star Hunts, which operated out of Ingram, TX) is no longer in business. But check out the others, get references -- and you'll do just fine.

And of course, I don't think you can go wrong with Ray Atkinson, for everything I've heard about him and read in his posts indicates he's truly knowledgable and stands by his word.

For Texas Exotics "meat hunt" $150/day for one hunter or $75/day /person for two hunters. All the hogs you want at no additional charge, plus Axis does for $200. I know he has other does for sale, not sure how much they are. Depending on what he has, they are usually around $200 as well.

He is a stand up guy too. Straight talker. Let me know if it interests you.

For the record, Thompson is a volume guy. That is how he makes his money. $180 Ram hunts, sells a bunch every weekend. Quantity not quality. There are a slew of Texas rednecks that buy these hunts every day because he appeals and markets to the masses.

He got into some trouble in the past, but I think he has straightened himself out.

That deal about the guide shooting the hunter is a shame and a tragedy. Not really fair to pin that on Thompson. I am not defending him but I am not going to jump on the TT bashing bandwagon either.

And no, I do not sell his hunts ...never have, never will.

I wouldn't have mentioned it except for the fact that when I hunted Thompson's last year, he did nothing to keep things safe! One guy was shooting from the back of his pick-up in front of the A-frame up towards Thompson's house and Thompson never said a word! It just so happened that my brother and I were in the area and the moron shot over our heads close enough for us to hear the crack of the bullet as it went past! When I confronted him, he said "I knew you were there but I was shooting over you"!!! Thompson did, in fact, tell us to watch for animals near the cabins at mid day and to shoot one if we wanted! The higher priced "pen" where the more expensive and better quality animals are kept is less than 100 yards from the run down trailer house Thompson calls the cowboy cabin! We were actually setting beside the cabin about lunch time and watched more than one person kill a ram in the pen!!! The first shooting might not have been Thompson's fault, I don't know.....but the next one will be simply because of his negligence in making sure things are done safely!
