I like 231, but I am sure there are a ton of others that will work well. Bullseye is a little dirty, but it seems to do the trick. You might try a Lee powder measure, they are very close to actual weight.

I'm looking for a good powder for Lead Bullets....Something that meters well and hopefully burns clean....I would like something in the 750 to 800 fps range....I've tried TiteGroup and it does fine in the 4.5 gr. range or above but when you get down to 3.2 grs. its very inconsistent..I've tried Unique and I'll be damned if I can get to to meter well...I have to weigh ever charge and adjust most of them....What about Clays or W-231?? I'm using a Harrell's Pistol measurer and would like to load some volumn loads without having to weigh every single one.....Any help would be appreciated....George

Geroge, I've used WW231 under lead bullets with no troubles in 38 special, 44 magnum, 45 ACP, and 45 Colt. Good hunting! McB

George....I load Unique for lead bullet moderate loads in my 357s. I use fixed rotor powder measures, such as the RCBS Pistol Powder measure, or an old Bonanza Bullseye Pistol measure. I just pick the rotor that drops the required amount of powder. I don't really know how consistent Unique meters using this method, as I have never weighed a charge, in more than 35 years of loading, using these measures. Considering the lead bullets, throat dimensions, barrel-cylinder gap, powder position in less than full-case loads, I wouldn't think a tiny difference in charge weights, would be significant......
If you want to load extremely light loads, such as the 3.2 W-231 you mention, you might consider using 38 Special cases......And yes, Unique seems to leave a small amount of debris in the barrel, but it never seems to affect accuracy.......Grant.

Grant, Thanks for the benefit of your experience....I understand from others and from what I have read that Unique is probably the most accurate powder to use for lead bullets in the .357.....I just can't seem to get it to work for me....I've been very pleased with W-231 so far...Right now, its going to be hard to beat.....Thanks again tho...George
