I have some loads reloaded, the 135 at 1507fps, 155 at 1414fps, 165 at 1380fps and could use these to hunt with at close range. Say about 75yds.I have a Glock 20 I know it's suppose to kick alot. Does anyone else own a 10mm?

the 10mm is a great round, I own a glock 29, the sub compact version of your's and I love it, it kicks, but not as bad as some of the lightweight 45's atleast IMHO, check out Double Tap Ammo the guy loads the hottest 10mm made, and his rounds were used to take a buffalo down.

75 yards is not close range with an iron sighted handgun! While you read and hear alot about folks rating there guns out to 100 yds, or maybe 125 yds, it is from folks that practice alot and are very good shots.

You mention the gun supposedly kicking alot, have you ever fired it? Only you know what your shooting ability is, but close range is inside 25 yards. I've seen a suprisingly number of folks that couldn't make killing shots at 10 yds. Based on the data you provided, I'd think of the 10mm as a capable 50 yd round, provided you can accurately shoot at that distance.

I have a Colt & S&W in 10mm. I like the round alot, kind of a semiauto .41mag. Your loads sound alittle on the warm side though. I'm not sure if the Glock's chamber fully supports the case head, but Glocks are hell for stout. It will last longer if you back off your loads a bit.

What PaulH said about 75yds being a long poke is right. If you can hit a 6"-8" pie plate every time then you are in range. With a good 180grJHP @ 1200fps +, you can cleanly take smaller deer out to 50yds or so. You want complete penetration & a good blood trail because you will have a tacking job.

dont worry about glocks breaking from use, even if they do you just send it back and glock will replace it

The 165 grains would be the lightest I would use on deer sized game. You'll really want 180 grains or possible 200 grains to allow the bullet to travel to the other side of your game and punch another hole.

I can hit a bowling pin all day long at 75 yards with my Kimber 10mm and a rest. 100 yards becomes a lot more difficult. I missed a coyote at 100 yards a couple of months ago [ok, I shot twice.]

I shoot a Glock 20 and use 175Gr. Win ST's. I limit my shots to 75Yd's but have shot several full clips of the bench at 100 at a paper plate. I usually miss the plate with a couple from each clip but on a good day can fill it.
I have not shot a deer with the 175's but I am sure they will do the job if I do mine.
I have never been a Glock fan and said I would never own one. My dealer basically gave me on for free and said if I liked it to pay him and if I didn't to return it. I paid him.
I have always thought of them as butt ugly (and still do) but man do they shoot. My best groups for 10 shots at 100 yd's have approached 6" with the norm being 9ish. Not bad for an open site hot auto.
The 10mm is now one of the guns I shoot and hunt with the most. It is the close gun back up to my 45-70BFR.

I have shot it quite a few times. The recoil doesn't bother me. I also own the S&W 500 and shoot it at 200 yds to a steel plate 12"x16" with iron sights. But putting all that aside. I was wondering what game has been shot with it
And at what range? Could it be used for hunting the bears or just deer?

Yes you are right my reloads are using No9 powder max loads. I don't think they will hurt my Glock. I load to the max, out of the reload book, with all my reloads. Haven't had any problem doing that for 25-30 years.

I tried to read into your post, I appologize for missing the mark.

If you look at the paper balistics, it is a tweener round, ie between the 357 mag and the 44 mag / 45 colt. I wouldn't say that with the proper bullets it couldn't be used to hunt species larger than deer, but it wouldn't be my first choice. I just don't see a 10mm auto as a good choice for a dedicated use hunting gun, but, that doesn't mean it wouldn't be effective if it was all you had.

I had a EAA witness Compact in 10mm Auto and it shot really well recoil was a bit sharp but very managable. I loaded it with winchester brass, winchester lP primer HDY HP/XTP 180GR Hodgdon HS-6 at 9.1 gr to a 1.125 COL Not a hot load and done pretty well.

I can't address the Glock 20 as a deer round directly but will note it shoots within a 100 fps of my .41 Magnum S&W 6 inch with Winchester 175 grain Silvertips. I shot one deer with the Silvertips and it was the most spectacular deer shooting I've seen. Just like being struck by lightning. I like the 10mm auto so much I'm looking for a Kimber in 10mm auto. John Browning got the semiauto right in 1911 and I just can't love my ugly Glock as much. lol

JRO45. Perhaps you can share some of your more accurate loads with me via PM? I have just bought an EAA Match in 10 mmm and have loaded up some 180gr. using AA#9. Heven't shot them yet, but the #9 seemed attractive due to it's efficiency ie. high velocity and reasonable pressures.

I have had a Colt Delta sens about 1990. My favorite load is a 175 gr lead SWC and 9 Grains of bluedot. Thats a pretty accurate load for my gun. I also own a 6" S&W 610. I have hunted ground hogs but not deer with the 10mm. Personally I would not shoot a deer past 50 yards.

Great thread on the 10mm. Have not killed anything with mine, but hope to this fall with my S&W1006. Have jumped in with both feet though and made good progress with my handloads. Some things I have learned:

Doubletap and Texas Ammo (out of business) chronied approx 50fps slower than advertised.
Heavier recoil spring (22# in mine) is a good idea with hot loads.
Would not call this gun an in betweener. If you compare the SD of the .400 to that of .410 and .429 bullets and the penetration should be real similar to the mags. My 200 hardcast load penetrated 9" wet paper, 3/4" tight birch PW, then another 9" wet paper before stopping at another layer of PW.
The Silvertip 175's are great factory ammo, but break up a bit too much for me.
My 200XTP load created a very impressive cavity in the paper before embedding itself in the back side of the first layer of PW, have not weighed it, but weight retainage/mushroom appear to be excellent.
The glock may not support the case as well as my S&W so my loads may be a tad too hot for it.

200XTP&200HardcastTCBB/Fed150/9.8grIMR800x=1243fps
200XTP&200HardcastTCBB/Fed150/12.5grAA#9=1193fps

BTW, it is written that Ted Nugent finished a Cape buffalo with a 180-grain Cor-Bon that completely penetrated the neck vertebrae. He has taken elk, caribou, bear, hundreds of hogs, rams, oryx, warthog, eland and zebra with his Glock 10mm.

My constant companion is a Glock 29. It's quite manageable. My wife shoots it. It's also scary accurate......even in the hands of a poor pistol shooter such as myself. It will empty a magazine of 175 gr. Silvertips into about 5" at 50 yards from a rest. Probably do better with someone other than me holding the gun. Here in PA, it's not a legal weapon for hunting of any sort. I would not, however, hesitate for a second to take a whitetail at 50-75 yards with it if the law were changed.

I have a Glock 20and 29, a Smith 1006,610, Delta Elite and EAA 10MM. The Glock is the easiest shooting with less felt recoil-the 610 is most accurate.

Read Will Fennell's description of the bullets performance. www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=228401 I would suggest the 200 gr for deer also.
