I heard about the .44 Lipsey Specials a bit late. I had my local dealer sign up with Lipsey (not all that easy), order the revolver, and wait a couple of months. It was/is certainly worth the effort. I consider it one of the finest single actions to date;
1 - All steel
2 - Cylinder throats are correct dimensionally
3 - The alignment pawl is a GREAT addition
4 - Excellent adjustable sights
5 - The Flattops are about the best looking single actions Ruger has ever produced
6 - They shoot extremely well when fed good loads

All in all, this is one case when you get MORE than you pay for:

Davidson's gun gallery has a stainless flatop .44 spl blackhawk with the 4 5/8" barrel

I just recently picked up one of these with the 4 5/8 barrel. Can anyone recommend a load using clays and jacketed bullets? Or any loads at all using any powder and bullets?

I can't remember any load I've tried in a .44 Special that hasn't shot well. There are numerous loading manuals that one needs to have if they load ammunition.

"Skeeter's" load is a 240 cast bullet ahead of 7.0 grains of Unique. This has shot well in several .44 Specials I've tried it in and the bullets go through a deer like a hot knife through butter. Be aware though, this load exceeds the current load as developed by Lyman.

I'm shooting 5.0 grains of Titegroup and a 280 grain BTB WFN. You should find the article by Ross Seyfried...

Just to set the record straight, Skeeter's load is 7.5 grs of Unique behind a 240-250 gr cast Keith bullet (Lyman 429421 or H&G #503 as examples).

I have shot THOUSANDS of these loads. It will give you somewhere in the neighborhood of 950 fps (depending on your revolver, barrel length, etc).

The NRA Reloading Manual pressure tested this load and it was within SAAMI limits for the .44 Special. It should be fine for any modern .44 Special large frame revolver made after 1950. I would not be interested in shooting these in a Charter Arms revolver simply because of recoil.

I have the 4 5/8 flat top and ordered my hunting buddy the 5.5" version.

Now, I see they have these in a stainless vaquero with a 3.75" bbl. Now I HAVE to have one of those for packing.

Can't much see the need for a Bisley, now if it was a Mag, that'd be different.
