Going with the bigger is better philosophy, any opinions about loading 225 grain cast bullets for deer (close range < 45 yards), as opposed to "normal" 205 grain cast? I was going to go heavier and slower, but now am thinking 9 grains of unique and 205 grains at short ranges will work just as well.

Take a look at Beartooth Bullets at :www.beartoothbullets.com They have a shooter's forum with good information and loading data. Also Cast Performance at : www.castperformance.com They have loading data. Mark

If it were me I would lean toward Win 296, H110, 2400, or atleast Blue Dot for powder. Just a little more punch. slim

I am loading 18 grs of AA #9 in Rem cases using CCI standard primers and 215gr cast bullets. It seems right snappy.

The load i use is H110. I would also opt for the Cast Performance 265GC if i were inclined to use cast bullets. I have used the Rem 210JSP and can tell you that these act like a solid unless they hit bone. This is the one i am going to try with W296. ------------------

Hi Penrod I don't think I have ever spoken with you here before. I have been hunting with a 41Mag for about 12 years now and love it. I shoot a 6" S&W 57 My favorite load for that gun is A National Bullet CO. 225gr SWC over 20gr H110 fired by a CCI350 primer in a Winchester case. I have used this load with great success for years. It punched all the way through a large doe at a confirmed 70yds a few years ago, and thats about as far as I dare shoot at something. Good luck with your hunts with the awsome 41mag. I just love them. You should email Crawfish He knows more about the 41 than antone I have ever talked to. ------------------

I thought some on this thread might be able to offer some info. I semi-inherited my brother's .4l mag (S&W mod 57-l, 6" bbl)while he is away in the military. I have yet to load for it. What would be a good hunting bullet for it as I do not cast them? Are you able to buy the Beartooths et al from some shop or do you have to cast them yourself? Thank You

WyoJoe I fear your brother may loose a good gun. Because you are going to fall in love with that 41. twillis Is National Bullet Co. out of the game? I haven't heard anyone mention them in a long time. I'm almost out of lead for my 41. I bought 2,000 last time. So it's been a while since I had to get some. penrod72 Welcome to handgun hunting, you couldn't have picked a better caliber to start with. Over the years I have found that 2400 works best in the stock .41RemMag. I load pretty heavy for caliber both bullets and powder. My current loads are built around CPBC 250 GC and BearTooth 250 GC sized to .411. I have recently purchased some .41 wildcats that have me working loads using 4657, 4227 and 1680 and bullets as heavy as 300grs. Just now I think 4227 will be what these big boys will like best. Be glad to pass load date to you over email. ------------------

X-Ring, You are right. I think I might have to get me a .41. I tried it when my brother came in to hunt elk 2 years ago and it is one sweet shooting round. Does not kick as much as my .44 and feels about the same as my .357. I am anxious to try it on something big. I have a late season cow elk tag here in Wyo. I might use it there. WyoJoe
