Since you "heard" 2400 was filthy, you should try it for yourself. It is my favorite powder for the 44 mag. I have tried other powders, but this is the most accurate powder I have found for my keith style cast bullet. My load consists of: 20.7 grains of 2400 250 Kieth cast bullet cci large pistol magnum primers (now switching to WLP) The Buffalo Bore 270 grain gold dot is just as accurate as this load, but no other factory load comes close. SOme h110 and 296 loads come close, but the 2400 load is the best I have been able to do. This is the only load I use the 2400 for. I use H110 for most other heavy handgun purposes. 2400 and cast bullets is MUCH cleaner than Winchester white box 240 grain soft points, which leaves powder residue or something everywhere (looks kina like saw dust). I love h110, but for accurate shooting in the 44 I always reach for 2400!!

I have been shooting 44's for years, (30). I have tried the other powders and have always gone back to 2400. 21.0 grains with 250 Kieth style bullet. 18.0 grains with 320 cast bullet, my favorite. I have also tried 20.0 grains of 2400 with the 320 cast. This worked excellent. I was told it was an overload, so went back to 18.0 grains. I do remember seeing 20.0 grains as a load in the Sixgunner years ago, but do not use it. Does anyone have a load for the 45-70 BFR in 7.5 inch with 400 grain Speer? I would like to get about 1600 FPS.
