One might say that shooting the 50 Alaskan is a real kick dancing

Hello,
What did John say about that beast? Any head wounds that day?

Jeese! Does it kick that bad or was he not holding it firmly enough? I only ask because they can get away from you at times! That actually looks like a head wound!

Actually, I was holding onto it very tightly, it just kicks that bad. I can truthfully say that the .50 Alaskan is the hardest recoiling revolver I have shot. It doesn't seem to recoil as much in an Encore, but we were shooting 640 grain APIs, so maybe it was.

I am right-handed and left eye dominant. That combination has saved me from many a front sight in the forehead wounds.

Hmmm. Be interesting to shoot that thing once or twice but that'd be about it for my aged bones. Shot a BFR in .45-70 and .50-70. Thought those were pretty wicked and returned to my little .475 and .500Linebaughs. Had an Encore pistol barrel in .416 Rigby that I liked but a feller laid out some long green and I let him have it.

Rob,
You should take that wheelgun on Gregg Richter's HHI Antelope hunt, and give new meaning to the term "scorched Earth"...

either that or just bring my own thunder across the plains. It'd be fun to shoot a bison with. The only real drawback is that we didn't get any more penetration with the .50 Alaskan than we did with a .500 Linebaugh shooting the same weight and style bullet. The extra velocity didn't do anything but increase the recoil and noise.

This was the only revolver that drew blood that day. The hammer spur bit me.

Yeah, well, usually when a rifle round is chambered in a hand gun, that's the result.

try kelly brosts punch bullets. Weve done alot of penetration testing and it doesnt do much good to push a cast bullet over 1400 fps. As a matter of fact weve had linebaughs outpentate alaskans with the same bullet. but that punch bullet is differnt. the faster you push it the father it will penetrate. Weve gotten some amazing results out of the punch bullet and the 50ak rifles.

Lloyd, do you know what Punch's web address is? A while back I attempted to find them on the internet and I finally gave up........

The same guy that makes Belt Mountain Base pins makes the punch bullets. I'll try and get the phone number later on, gotta get back to work.

Lloyd, we were shooting some of the rounds John had loaded with punch bullets. Yes, we found out the .50 Alaskan gave nothing in terms of performance over the .500 Linebaugh.

The .54 caliber Scout pistols would recoil severely when loaded with 145 grains of Pyrodex and a Maxi Ball

Thats odd. With punch bullets weve allways done better with higher velocitys. One of the guns we used for testing was Johns 50 alaskan. Buddy Al had it at his house for quite some time working up loads for it and the day we tested the punch bullets we used both Als and Johns gun.

Lloyd,

Let me clarify, I did not do a good job in my earlier post.

We shot cast bullets in the .50 Alaskan and .500 Linebaugh of the same weight and style. That was all we had. This showed only additional noise and recoil for the extra velocity.

We also shot some of John's punch bullet loads and they penetrated the same as the heavier cast bullet launched at a higher velocity.

My apologies for the miscommunication.
