Anyone on the board use Electronic ear plugs for hunting? I've seen the "Radians" brand with an inner ear plug type moldel for bout $80 at Cabella's, then they have a behind the ear model at $49. Then there are the Walkers and other expensive brands. I was wondering if any of these cheaper ones actually work? They claim to attenuate blasts at 80-90 db. I just want a pair that will protect my hearing from gun fire, then allow me to hear normally in the woods.

You get what you pay for. The best ones are custom made like the ESP Elite, that fit inside your ear (perfectly). They will work as a regular earplug even if the battery is dead. They are also much more comfortable than the one size fits most, of the cheap stuff. I've had mine for several years and would not use anything else. I use peltors and a set of Remingtons Make sure you get the ones that dampen the sound and do not shut off. MY older peltors shut off and the newer remingtons dampen. When hunting not so much on the range losing your hearing for a second or two matters. I wear the remingtons hunting all the time. I talked to a couple of people who used the radians and didn't like them.

I use my Tac 7's ANY time I'm hunting... They GREATLY sharpen my hearing so that I hear WAY better than normal which is a big advantage in the piney woods. They also shut off when a shot is fired. p dog shooter??? Are you saying that the Remmy models don't shut completely down and therefore recover quickly? If so that is a big advantage. $bob$

Yes that is what I am saying they just surpress the noise and do not shut down. There are others on the market that do the same.

I had a pair of Peltors but they were having circuit problems. While they were in the shop, I got a 50.00 pair of Caldwell and they have been working for hunting and the shooting range for 1 1/2 years. I have a lot of hearing loss and they sure help while pistol hunting and I have worn them turkey hunting to hear where the call comes from.
