I'm new to this board and after reading and learning a lot, would like to pose a few questions. This summer I bought a Taurus Raging Bull with 8 3/8" barrel and mounted a 2x Leupold to use for deer in NY. It is my second pistol and my first revover and hunting pistol. I am an accomplished rifle and shotgun hunter/marksman. My gun dealer recomended the Hornady 240 XTPs. At 100 yds off a bag it holds 3" groups. I can consistantly do that off hand at 50 yds. Opening day I took my first buck, also my first deer with a pistol. It was a spike, but it might as well have scored a 180! My question is this. In everything I've read so far, the only revolvers talked about are Rugers and S&W. Is there anyone out there besides me with a Taurus? To the rest of you .44 fans, are the accuracy results I'm experiencing good, bad or middle of the road? Before the season I decided my maximum range would be 50 yds, took the buck quartering away at just under that. He went right down and the round was recovered in the off shoulder. A lot of you like the 240 XTP, and after my experience (almost none) I do too. I realize that hunting with a pistol requires a lot of different things to go your way, I'm curious to know if I'm doing things right or am I just really lucky? Any and all advice/criticizm would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all who take the time to answer. Bill

I had a Taurus Model 44 in 44 mag and loved it. Taurus makes a great gun and rivals S&W for fit, finish and accuracy. If it works for you, why care about what others think. BTW, I sold my Taurus to buy a Contender. Like I said, I loved the Taurus, but wanted a Contender more.

Taurus Bill, I own a RB in .454 Casull but have fired a few times the S&W 629 in .44 Mag. IMHO, the RB is the most accurate and reliable Taurus made up to now. With ported barrel the .44 magnum will be very easy to handle. Ruger is a good option too but I prefer the RB.

I have a Taurus Model 444 Raging Bull 44 mag, 8 3/8" barrel, Stainless. I love it. I don't need a scope, I can shoot 1 1/2" groups at 50 yds with open sights and handloads. It is my most accurate handgun. I have a Desert Eagle 44 and a Ruger Super BlackHawk Hunter 44 mag. I like both of them alot also. The Raging Bull's weight and ported barrel gives great control, makes it my only One Hand 44 Handgun, need both hands to hang on to the others. I heard all the quality horror stories too, but I would put my RB 44 up against any model by any maker. Be proud of your Raging Bull 44, when people see you shoot it, they will want one to. Get one and I think you will like it. It should be a well made gun for the price. It is a little too big and heavy for me but I think it's worthy. Good luck.

Have the TRB in .41RemMag and a Tracker 425 that I carry about 95% of the time that I am armed. I hunt with all my pistols. Just happends to depend on how I feel as to which I grab out of the safe. If it counts for anything I like a Taurus enough to bet my like on. Should say something on how I feel about that.

Hi Taurus Bill Well put it this way you got a good gun the rb 444 44mag is nice . Thats what i got a rb444 44mag 6 1/2" SS barrel shoots dam good.5 shots @ 1 3/4" @ 50 yards open sights can't wate to get a scope on it to see where group end up at maybe a 1"group @ 50 yards. put it this way i can shoot all day long shooting HOT MAGNUM LOAD and not get sore. And shoot it with one hand and hold on to it with out getting hit in the head. As fo the Ruger and S&W they are all good guns thay bin around for a long long time the Raging Bull its kind of still new come peared to the S&W And Rugers. if you dont reload try all the differant ammo you can buy to see what shoot the best out of your Bull .If you like it thats what counts. Not what others say or think... get a spring kit put in it you will like it put in a 10 lb. mainspring in and a 10 lb trigger spring in it "NICE" you will LIKE IT .thats what i put in mine .So good shooting and shoot more .. get a good feel for the gun shoot alot. one shot kills when you hit the mark---> (x) Idaho Bob

Wow, that's more like it, I knew I wasn't alone. I have tried quite a few different loads, all factory except for one, and don't see a significant difference in accuracy. From a good rest an inch and a half at 50 yds isn't too hard as long as I do my part. Magtech 240gr semi-hollows are the cheapest I've found and recoil as compared to the Hornady 240gr XTP is not much at all. I do get some attention while at the range, some good and some bad. It looks great with the scope, but the porting gets all negative attention once I start shooting. (my range firing line is covered) I'd say that the quality fit and finnish is'nt absolutely top notch, but you have to look close to see the one or two flaws I've noticed during the initial and subsiquent cleanings. In a reply posted above, 10lb springs are recomended. What difference will I notice? What weight are the stock springs? Thanks a lot for all the responses. Bill

I have a Raging bull in 454. I think it's a great gun, even though the recoil's a bit rough. I'd say its just as good as a Smith. I do like Rugers a bit more though simply because of the integral scope mounts.

Taurus Bill The differnce you will notice .By puting lighter mainspring and trigger spring in is that it makes it alot more smoother trigger pull and hammer action. Which will be more smoother and more comfortable to shoot either SA or DA . Which will inprove your accuracy when shooting. With a heavyer spring you tend to pull the barrel when pulling the trigger just a little .Lets say if you are left handed you will pull to the barrel just a little to the left when shooting.A little makes a lot at long range. So with a lighter spring you wont . "Better Accuracy" The factory springs are about 14 to 16 pounds. The shooter's pak contains 1 each there is a 10,11,12 pound hammer spring = mainspring and 1 each 10,11 pound trigger spring in the kit. This is for "Taurus Large Frame Revolvers" stock # is 17190 and the cost is $10.50 + 3.50 S.H .. You can go to http://www.gunsprings.com or call to order at Wolff Precision Gunsprings at 1-800-545-0077 there out of Newtown Square,PA "You will like the differnce that it makes" "in the liter springs" one shot will kill when you hit the mark---> (x) Idaho Bob

Hey Bob, how did you know I was left handed? I realize that the hammer and trigger springs are quite heavy, especially DA, but by far most of my trigger time is with a military rack grade issue M-16. Heavy trigger pulls are nothing new to me. I can not however argue with the fact that accuracy will be greatly improved shooting with a lighter trigger spring. Does changing one spring require both to be changed? Is this mod something I can do myself? Would this mod, or the fact that I perfomed it, void the lifetime warranty? Thanks again for all your posts. This BB is a great resource. Bill

Bill Does changing one spring require both to be changed ? NO it does not you could just change the mainspring if you wonted to that would lighten it up some .But it is better to do both i think .Its pretty easy to do your self i did mine my self. And as for void the warranty it could if you have to send the gun in if you leve the lighter springs in..To not void the warranty just pull the lighter springs back out and put the factory springs back in now your warranty is not void..To do this your self pull the grip off you will see the mainspring make sure that the gun is not loaded.Pull the hammer back you then see a small hole put a needle in the hole close hammer the spring will come out pull the needle out of hole be careful not to lose any parts put the lighter spring in and do it the same way but reverse puting back in .As for the trigger pull the three screws out and put them back in the same way when done. Take the side plate off it is the same way as doing the mainspring in changeing it .Its easy to do.. one shot kills when you hit the mark---> (x) Idaho Bob
