I'm looking for information on the S&W M29 with the 10 and 5/8s inch barrel. Just bought one in mint condition. When did Smith make them and are they still offered with this barrel lgt? This revolver also has a 4 pos front sight. I believe that it was for shooting those steel critters. It's in such nice condition I almost hate to use it, but I'm going to!

I don't believe it is still cataloged. You might try their web site. I had one for a while; it was the best shooting of the handful of .44's I have owned. I thought that front sight would be great but it ended up a solution to something that wasn't a problem (for me). My current 629 has the quick switch front sight which I am still fooling with. So far I haven't found one that looks good on a target and looks good in dim hunting light.

I have a 5" 629 classic that is used for everything and the best sight combination I have found for low light is the white outline rear and the gold bead up front. I really like that gold bead in all but bright sunlight as it's to bright then.
