How much is one of these pistols worth? A friend of mine is selling his revolver and he told me its a smith and wesson Big Frame revolver in 44 mag with a 2 inch barrel. he says its pretty old but in great condition. Any ballpark figure welcome. dont know if its stainless or blued though.

As far as I know, S&W never made a 2" 'N' frame. Definetly not way back when. They did make limited runs of 3" guns in the 80s I believe. You need to find out more info., like is it factory 2" or did someone hack the bbl. off. If it's a factory 2", it would be a collectors item. If it's a gunsmith job, maybe $300-$350 if done well & in great shape.

There have been numerous custom 44's built with 2, 2.5, and 3 inch barrels. As far as I know, the only factory ones were 2.5 and 3 inch, sold to various distributors. Price is really going to depend on which particular model, finish, condition, and rarity. So, anywhere from a couple of hundred bucks to a couple of thousand bucks. There's people who post here who can give you a more accurate price, but you really need to provide more detail. FWIW - Dan

Check the auction sites for an idea of what these are selling for in the real world.

A .44mag with a short barrel is an unpleasant gun to shoot if it doesn't fit your hand. Frowner
