What is the going rate for a T/C Contender? One of the local shops has one for sale with a .223 barrel and a .30-30 barrel and is wanting $650 shocker I think the barrel had some tig welding marks on it as well shocker

I have always liked them and even though I dont know what I would use one for, I think they are neat. I'm sure one of these days I'll have one follow me home

$650 is too much. Tell him you will offer $500 and your doing him a favor.

You can get a new G2 frame for $325 or maybe less if you shop a bit. A Contender frame in excellent condition (i.e., hard to tell from new or new) should run in the $225 to $250 range. I've bought new Contender and Encore barrels in the $150 range. Blemishes on the barrel would reduce the price to the low $100s depending on how bad they were.

You didn't say what grips/stock it comes with. A pistol grip/forend set would go for $25 to $35.

If the frame isn't "easy open" and if the barrels are of the old octagonal style, I wouldn't buy it at any but a "steal" price.

I always figure that an entire setup including frame, barrel and scope is worth about $475. More or less depending on barrel maker, caliber and brand of scope.

You can buy the barrels for about $100/ea if you shop around a bit, probably $150/ea if you are in a hurry. The rest of the math is up to you.
With Contenders, it pays to shop around unless you are just in a gosh awful hurry. Many times a shop down the road will have been sitting on a Contender (and/or barrels) for a long time and you can walk in and make a great deal for yourself.

Good luck.

I've never paid more than 350 for a contender but I've intentionally spent as much as that on barrels. All depends on what you want to shoot and how far away. You can get a super nice one at the right time and place for 200 or spend 2500 tweaking one out.

You don't state if there are scopes on these barrels. Without scopes this is a HIGH price.
$500 or less would be more like it.

If you are interested in another barrel let me know. I have a 10" .44mag barrel that was rechambered to .444 Marlin I am selling. I haven't used it in years since I mostly bowhunt nowadays or use my FA .454. No sights and it has a tiny pit on the barrle...I want $150 + shipping.

unless it is in pristine condition, I would pay more then 400 bucks for a contender...

I was told by a friend and fellow contender enthusiast that figure 125 per component (scope, barrel, frame).

You can buy new barrels for a little over 200 bucks... and used barrels for 125 to 150 off the auction sites (although, prices there are getting a little crazy lately).

I am always checking pawn shops in the towns I work in.. ya never know whatchu gonna find LOL

Welcome to AR!!!! wave

Now that you said something about the grip staying in his hand, I think you are right! You can see his hand is still in a fist like he is holding the grip until the end of the video. Very interesting

357 rem max in a 10" tube was my favorite contender. A compressed load of AA1680 under a 200 gr WFN cast was a very impressive combo.

I never liked the 14" barrels that much, and they really only come into their own on the bottle necked rounds.
