Just got a wild hair to develop a load for a pack along HK USP in 45 acp (pack while hunting). Put together a 255 west coast TMJ load, with 9.9 gr. of HS-7 (Hodgdon) Very accurate load and pressures look fine.....probably around 900 to 950 fps. Was wondering who has used any of the 45 TMJ bullets on game. From what I could research on the net, two guy said they have used them in the 45 ACP for deer (with good results) and the TMJ's flattened pretty well (almost like a muzzle loader bullet) and penetration was about 18" with weight loss of about 20 grains (again, with the 45 acp). Thought I would ask around about the TMJ's and what if any results were out there. It solves the hollow point plugging problem if the do flatten a bit on impact which would be all a guy could ask for. thanks Paul

I can't see how a truncated cone with a full metal jacket could lose any weight, espescially at 45acp speeds. Truncated nose bullets aren't made to expand, even dead soft muzzle loading bullets with a TC nose only deform slightly, or from hiting big bones. Using a truncated cone for hunting is an old debate, some love it and some hate it. JD Jones made his SSK bullet with a truncated cone and swore by it. Others like Ross Seyfried swear at it, saying it's one of the worse designs eve, prone to turning and not penetrating in a straight line. It MIGHT be the best bulet to use for hunting in a 45 ACP, as it will do more tissue damage than round nose hardball, yet penetrarte much more than a hollow point. That still doesnt make the 45Acp a good choice for hunting. The only time I've seen 45ACp TMJ bullest flatten out even slighty is when they're fired into steel or hardwood.

Cas Yah, I would think that you would have to wack bone to get them to flatten much or shear off a piece to loose weight, but thats just guessing... I thought to ask in the forum to get some more input before testing them on game..... Nope, surely not ideal for hunting.....mostly thinking I would like to try it out this fall just for the heck of it. thanks Paul

The T/C bullet I'm familiar with [Hornady ?] had a shoulder and operates just like a hard cast swc, cutting a full caliber hole. It was known for having feeding problems and I gave it up because my gun didn't like it.

Mete This is truncated cone, but is made by Western bullet company in Nevada........If I remember correctly, they have a electroplated skin that is about 6 thousandths thick, and is more of a pure copper. I shoot a ton of their bullets for combat comp stuff, and they feed great in the truncated cone design, but the difference is, that the bullet I am using is a 255 gr., much heavier than what I normally use...but made by the same company. regards Paul
