I am at a crossroad on which one to get.
I am going to get one in a 6" but have not made up my mind yet on where to get it from. I am only going to shoot iron sights no scope on this one. What are your experiences with the 2 makers?
Thanks

I own a 6" FA in 475 Linebaugh. I love the gun. I have no experience and don't know what a GR is!

My personal preference is a FA 83, rather than a Gary Reeder custom. I own 3 and have used them extensively on hogs, elk, bears, buffalo and bison. Many custom gunsmiths can build a good .475L. I prefer stainless in a serious hunting gun, and having decided that, none is really any better than a FA in my view.
If you want a blued and perhaps CH finish, then you have to go elsewhere...to John or Dustin Linebaugh, Alan Harton, Hamilton Bowen, David Clements, or others such as Gary Reeder. Whichever you choose, I believe that you'll find the cartridge to be very accurate, with enough power to be used on anything.

Of the 2 that you mentioned IMHO the FA would get the nod.
If I were you I'd take a hard look at the Custom Shop BFR, a lot of gun for the money and one that is safe to carry with all 5 chambers fully loaded.
If I wanted to go the custom revolver route I'd look at John Linebaugh, Hamilton Bowen, Dave Clements, and Jack Huntington.

I have a few Gary Reeder customs. I am getting a Stainless Ruger Super Blackhawk done in a 475 Linebaugh, Alaskan Hunter model.

So I am bias here, and would recommend Gary Reeder over FA myself.

All of the custom guys mentioned here are good....but only one has a lifetime warranty regardless of who owns the gun when the warranty is exercised. This even includes the finish. That one custom builder is Gary Reeder. Yes, I am a bit biased as I have lots of his guns. But...I can afford to have them from any one of these guys, but I chose Gary for the simple fact that I can get whatever I want and if its not to my satisfaction...he will make it right no matter the cost. Of course, we all have our favorite and I am no different. For the cost of a run of the mill FA, you can get a damned nice custom one.

I have the FA Model 83 with a 6" barrel. It has been a pleasure to own. The Linebaugh boys do good work as does John Gallagher. So to answer your question, I'd say FA.

Aren't all of Reeder's offerings "package guns" that you choose from? That was my understanding.

Ditto. Now if you considered Bowen, Clements, Harton, Linebaugh, etc., I would give a different answer.

No, you have a lot of choices. Gary will make it the way you want it. My Alaskan model is totally different then what he shows in his offerings. After all he does custom work.

Hallowell's (or somone) had a Gary Reeder "African" for sale some time back. It was in 475 Linebaugh and was a handsome piece, but he wasn't dealing!

You won't go wrong with any of the choices, but the FA is a good gun as well.

Let us know how you like it, once you get it and give use some range reports.

I would buy it now if it wasn't $400 over dealer being I'm a dealer. Leaves more money for brass and bullets.
Thanks for the link anyway.
