I am left eye dominant. I shoot my rifles and my bows right handed. I am finding myself looking through the sights of my pistols using either my left eye or my right eye. Have any of you done this? have any of you found any differences in the point of impact on your targets?

You should try to be consistant .Even if you have to train with one eye covered .There should be a POI difference. It has been found that it's easier to train the hand than the eye.

I am right handed, left eye. dominate. What the last post said, training the eye is hard, gecause it HAS to be automatic.
Really screws up POA with me.
Patch helps but it is work.
Bow is going LH.
Learning to shoot revolver LH, just for grins. The big bores will be fun to watch the first time!

You'll freak people out at the range if you try something I am going to recommend , but just give it a serious try and see if it will work for you.

Shoot with left eye and right handed, just shift the hold until it all lines up.

UNLOAD a pistol at home and AFTER you UNLOADED the gun and CHECKED the chamber(s) then try bringing the gun up more centered and in front of the dominant eye. Some serious effort spent holding the handgun(s) in this new position and closing an eye you are not used to closing will be required.

The time working on this before you get to the range, may be an answer to both issues, or it all may just create a another problem.

It will take effort to test out thoroughly and determine if it will work for you.

My daughter who is legally blind in her right eye shoots long guns from her left shoulder and hand guns with her left eye and right hand.

She is a very good shot with both types of weapons. It is easy to ajust your stance and head position to shoot rt or left handed with the dominat eye.

My son shoots very well with his rt or left eye rt or left handed.

Go to the range shoot what ever way works out the best for you

I had to switch at an age of about 8 from getting stung by a bee in the right eye and my father told me to try shooting southpaw and it corrected my accuracy issue.may be awkward at first but you will adjust to shooting left handed

I recently had a student who could shoot either eye. He POI was the same, but he shot a little better with the left eye. In the end, consistency is his issue. He kept switchinf from eye to eye and that gave him problems. Pick an eye and train the hand.

I am right handed and right eye dominant, but due to my right eye being weaker than my left I shoot all my handguns with my left eye.

I'm right eye dominant. But for combat shooting I shoot with both eyes open in the isosceles stance. There is always a distance and target size where I'm forced to change stance back to weaver & close my left eye, but that seems to be out past 50yds for me.

I am left handed and right eye dominant. I solved the problem by learing to shoot everything right handed. It works very well for me and gives the added bonus that I do not have the availibility problems of finding leather or trying to make right hand designed guns work.

I shot for all of my life (from teen ager to three years ago - I am now 75)with my right eye right handed. I had a cataract in both eyes and when the dust cleared, glaucoma has seriously damaged the vision in my right eye.

About three years ago, I changed over to shooting right handed and left eyed. Frankly, it only took me a couple of sessions to accommodate. Here is a recent target I shot with my 625 (.45 ACP) standing at 25 yards:

Great to see you posting here Dale53. Folks I had the great pleasure of meeting Dale on a trip to Ohio. I am right handed and left eye dominant but have shot all my life with my right eye. My right eye is much weaker. Dale saw me shoot and he'll probably vouch that I need to learn to shoot with my left eye.

I too am cross dominant-left-hand/right-eye. For rifles- simply look through the scope or sights (focus on front sight of course) and go from there (both eyes open), it is no biggie. Shotguns, it needs to fit well! Handguns- it is automatic, as my pistol rises into view, I automatically, after decades of constant shooting, my right eye and the sights align, I do not have any issues with strong handed presentations. Weak hand, and left corners-right hand/right eye, right corners, strong (left) hand and weak eye (keeping as much cranium out of view).

I shoot HP rifle, so I simply put a piece of scotch tape on my right lens/pupil and shoot with both eyes open-less eye strain over the course of fire.

Overall-no biggie.
