Hello Redhawk1. I found this from October 2008 while searching and browsing.

How have the different grips held up over time in the heavy kicking revolvers?
Or anyone else with experience or opinions on grip material for heavy revolvers?

I'm looking into getting some Buffalo horn to try to make some revolver grips for my BFRs, Rugers, and others.
How durable is it? How easy is it to cut, shape and polish? Can it be cut with saw, router bit... Can you sand to shape, then switch to 600 wet&dry and polish?

I'm not haveing any luck locating a source for Black Micarta.

TIA

I have to agree, on my BFR 500 Mag, I have the
micarta grips, on my BFR 45-70, I have smooth Buffalo horn grips. My Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt has smooth Moose antler grips, My 510 GNR has stag horn grips and my new 475 Linebaugh from Gary Reeder will have micarta grips.

I have not seen Alex post in a while here. You may want to PM him or look in the handrifle area.
