Bill/OregonNew 10 from Remington
Looks like Big Green is going to build a long-slide 1911 in 10mm for the hunting market. I am intrigued.

Kyler HamannThis resurgence in the 10mm is great. I’ve had one for about 25 years and have always been impressed by that cartridge. Years ago I stocked up on 10mm brass, thinking that the 40 cal would make it obsolete, but watching the recent turn of events I wonder if it will be the other way around….

DCS MemberI wanted a Delta Elite back in the day and wish I would've bought one. I've got a Kimber now and love it. The Remington looks great. The RP45 looks like a piece of crap.
I meant to be DSC Member...bad typing skills.

cooperjdvery cool. i talked the wife into buying me a kimber target II in 10mm for my wedding present, still have yet to take it after any animals. but i do love that gun. it seems with some of the resurgence finding full power factory loads is getting easier as well. hopefully the new remington offering will be a quality product. ive never shot a remington handgun.

Geedubyamy g20 SF is my daily carry when at the deer lease.
Loaded with a combo of 200 gr. Hornady XTP and FMJ's, it packs a punch!
ya!

Palladin8I would love to have a long slide 10MM. I have always felt the 10 would benefit from a longer barrel. If it weren't for the finger grooves on the Glock Model 40 I would already own a long slide.
I have had a Kimber Stainless Target II since 2005 and it happens to be my favorite Pistol. 200gr WFN at 1250fps will pack a punch.
Nevada will not allow the use of 10MM for large game hunting unfortunately.

drewhenrytntI just purchased a LNIB Pre-Lock, S&W 610, unfluted. Also have 2ea G20 Gen 3. The 6" hunting barrel from Glock sure does work nice.

JiriTime ago, I was thinking about 10 mm too. Later, I decided .460 Roland and I am happy. And it is not easy to get .460 Rowland pistol here in Europe. It is not C.I.P. standardized (our SAAMI equivalent). Also no factory ammo here.
So from my point of view, why 10 mm auto, if you in USA can easy get .460 Rowland pistol and great factory ammo?
Just my two cents.

Idaho SharpshooterJiri,
bullet diameter...

JiriIdaho Sharpshooter:
In what (for hunting) is 10mm auto better than 460 Rowland?
Bullet diameter? I believe that there is more bullets in .45 cal than 10mm on the both sides of Atlantic ocean . . .
BTW I think that 10 mm is great round, but .460 Rowland is IMHO better.

eezridrWhat velocity gains would you expect in a 10 mm with a long slide (6") over a std 5" pipe?
Thinking about the higher pressure Underwood / Buffalo Bore type loadings.

p dog shooterSome where around 50fps could be more could be less depending on the pistol.
I have a 5.5 in. red hawk in 44 mag. that gives higher velocities then two 7.5 in. black hawks and a 7.5 in. red hawk. with the same bullets and powders.
The only sure way to know what velocity a certain fire arms give is to chronograph it.
But then the best way to ruin a do anything kill any thing I have use this firearm for decades is to chronograph it.

Woodrow S10mm VS 460 Rowland = 10mm holds more cartridges, thinner gripframe and has less recoil for quicker follow up shots. 10mm diameter is perfect for expansion AND penetration. The best of all worlds in a semi-auto. I have the 10mm in two custom 1911's and a G40 Longslide. I could have anything I want..but that is what I chose.

Woodrow you forgot the biggest advantage of the 10mm over the 460 Roland. It doesn't have one of those obnoxiously loud and ugly muzzle breaks on them.

JiriPalladin8: Yes, it is loud. But it is not ugly. It is just piece of artillery in your holster ;-)
Magazine capacity: 12 rounds (for me it is enough)
Recoil: My Jericho (Baby Eagle) 9mm Luger kicks more (brake really works)
Gripframe thickness is OK, I even installed arched mainspring housing.
My own loads from 185gr JHP gr to 250gr HC:
185gr Sierra JHP - 1525 fps
200gr Sierra FPJ - 1470 fps
230gr Hornady XTP - 1350 fps
250gr Ares HC - 1250 fps
200gr Lehigh Xtreme Penetrator 200gr - 1424 fps
I chose .460 Rowland.

sputsterNice artillery! What is the max distance for making good shots with it?

Jirisputster:
Honestly, I didn't test it "long range". It definitively shoots better than me. Here, you can't hunt with handguns. It's main purpose is "self defense" against wild boars etc., so it will be used on longer distances only at shooting range etc. I can shoot it 1" group standing without support, two hand grip at 25 meters, if there is no heavy wind (moving body).
I can estimate it can be good for 50 meters/yards with open sights and 100 m/yards with red dot maybe.
