Does anyone here have experience with this caliber? I am considering building a .500 something-or-another, and this one is on my radar.

Exit hole in the off side rib cage of a Bull Elk witha 440 grain flat point hard cast at 950 fps

At the Linbaugh seminar in Jackson Miss. in May the 425 grain Hardcast at 1384 FPS penetrated 50" and the 420 grain 475 at 1382 FPS penetrated 49" The 500 JRH is a very effective round

The Next picture is the bullet under the hide on the off side of an Asian Buffalo,425 grain at 1375 FPS......

Jack Huntington told me the JRH took top of the hill honors at this year's seminar! Can't argue with that performance!

Yup, you'll need to call him. But he's a good guy who is willing to talk to you.

I wish I could help you there, but I have know idea what he's up to. There's alot going on in the shop. I handle all the custom rifle work, Jack handles all the revolver work, Kit and Ed handle all the general repair and Jason does all the 1911 work. Were all so busy we have know idea what each others projects or are. I see alot of revlovers in progress and we bounce alot of ideas off each other but I almost never know who they belong to, except the really wild stuff like Tom's 50-110! Please always feel free to give Jack a call for an update.

SWD -- I am very happy to hear that you all are very busy! That means that you have lots of work which means you will be in business for a long time producing great custom firearms (deductive reasoning Big Grin)!! Jack always fins the time to talk, and that is greatly appreciated!

Don't have any hunting experience with the cartridge, but darn close enough to the 500 Linebaugh cartridges I use to have. Been playing with a 4" octagon BFR 500 JRH that Jack converted from a 454 BFR I found for a good price. As much as I would have wanted a 500 JRH on a FA, my budget wouldn't allow it, and not sure if I want a 4 shooter? I sure wish Ruger or someone would make guns for the 500 JRH, because it sure is a lot easier to pack than the big X-frames I use to have. I did shoot for a while in January/February, a BFR in the 500 JRH, that BFR offers, that Jack had them make for him, and it was tight! Good cartridge that doesn't need a big gun.

I am actually considering sending Jack my .454 SRH to convert to .500 JRH -- but first I need to get my .475 back from him -- need to have something to hunt with!

Many years ago, I sent him my .44 SRHK, and he converted it to a 5" bull 500 Linebaugh. Not sure if I still have photos of it? It might have been lost when our previous computer got a virus. If I can find it, I'll post it. It was another of his master pieces, that I had to sell to finance another project.
