Anyone else got it? I had never heard of the cartridge until 5 years ago. But now I have own both of the redhawks that I have came across. And I can't help but want to find an S&W m57. Am I the only one thats been bit by this bug? Then again maybe its because its not the popular round. My go to deer rifle is an 7mm Express.

280W, I am probably divulging my approximate age here but back in the early seventies when Montgomery Wards still handled/sold handguns I'd make a pass through their sporting goods dept and look at a S&W model 57 under glass. I bet they hated me doing this because they probably had to clean the drool off the glass after I left. It was priced$134.99 which seems rediculous now but was more than a paycheck from my lousy low rent job. When I decided to buy a Ruger Blackhawk years ago my mind drifted back to that beauty-under-glass and I opted for the 41Rem and haven't regretted the choice. I dropped my second white tail deer with it just last weekend, a broadside shot at 55-60yds. The 210 grain Hornady XTP did a complete pass-thru and the deer ran about 10yds and was drt. After dropping her I wondered why it had been so long since I had hunted with it. It is going deer hunting with me next year for certain.

Well, I wasn't just bit, I got mauled! Big Grin I've been shooting, hunting with, and loading for the .41Magnum since I got my first one in the '60s. I've got 40+ I believe at present as I've not inventoried in a while. I haven't opted to get the .41JMP but I have everything from an American Derringer in the caliber to all of Marlin's lever actions in .41Magnum. I've got a few .41 caliber wildcats, also.

As to hunting with the .41Magnum, I've killed animals to include vermin/varmints, deer(whitetail, mulie, exotics), antelope, black bear, wild pigs, elk, exotics, and an old range cow on this continent. The caliber has also performed perfectly on African plains game such as duikers, blesbock, wildebeest, red hartbeest, impala, springbok, reed, water, bushbuck, warthog, gemsbok, and kudu.

For deer-sized game and smaller, I load the 210grJHP. I like the Noslers as they're a little cheaper than the XTPs by Hornady and they've always done a good job for me. Going up to bigger animals, I have settled on a hard cast 250grWFNGC from a NEI mould a few of us went in on. It gives me a good compromise between weight and velocity. For those that don't load, Corbon, Buffalo Bore, and Federal have good offerings in this bullet weight.

Sorry, I didn't mean to get so long-winded. It's just that I have a serious "Jones" for the .41Magnum. Now, I've got to go play with my latest, a Ruger Blackhawk New Model Flattop.

Joe Mack: You, sir, are one crazy .41 dude! I've fiddled with a couple, but there's a nice little 6 1/2-inch barreled Blackhawk for sale in a local shop that keeps whispering highly inappropriate things in my ear ...

I bought an Old Model Blackhawk in .44 magnum in 1971. A few years later, after Ruger changed the Blackhawk, I got the .41 bug and started hitting all the gun and pawn shops and gun shows looking for an Old Model.

About fifteen years ago, while I was waiting at my bank for some loan papers to be drawn up, I went down the street to check out a pawn shop. They had a mint Old Model in the original box. They were asking $250. I paid them $200 and walked into the bank and set it on the loan officers desk while we finished the loan. He finally asked me what was in the box. When I told him I finally found the .41 I was looking for, he said "Cool, just don't let the window clerks see it."

The .44 and .41 are only eight digits apart, both made in 1968.

...I am not "quite" as bad a JoeMac...but almost... Have had .41s since the early 1970s and like Joe, not sure how many are around here right now.

This is one of the more special ones...Gary Reeder Custom with extra .41 GNR cylinder.... .41 happen to be his favorite caliber also...

Was at a gun show Saturday and lucked into three boxes of factory Remington...one 210 JSP and two of the rare 170 grain SJHPs...$90.00 for the three. Current wholesale on a box of 210 SPs is $48.00...this is nutz...

I would add my .02 here as a lover of 41 caliber.

It has been my experience that the 41 is one of those calibers, if you get to shoot one you find out what all the hoopla is about. It's honestly impossible to describe how different it is from the 357 and the 44.

There is a S&W stainless with a long 8 3/8" pipe that wants to go home with me.

I was praying for strength but finally gave up on that!

I only have one at present, but that 657, she is my baby. My dad bought matching Classic Hunters with serial numbers in order when I was a teenager. I'm not sure he's ever fired his, but I can't say the same.

I can't understand the attraction. I own a 57-1 smith and wesson 4 inch nickel and a pair of 57 smith and wesson 6 inch blue guns. I've shot the 4 inch and one of the 6 inchers a bit, but no joy! I go right to the 29-2 (44 mag.) when I want one to shoot or hunt with. The only reason I keep the .41's is guys like you keep running up the vaule on them Big Grin

The .41 is a fine caliber but is in a tiny slot.
The .44 is just easier to find stuff for, many, many more boolit molds, etc.
It is just a TWEENER caliber.

I currently own 3 41 mags, all 3 are Smith & Wesson's. 2 Model 57's a 4" and a 6" both aarevery accurate. The third is a Model 357PD 4". I really like the M357PD since it is 18 ounces lighter thanthe all steel models and is also very accurate.

The 41 mag is a very accurate and realitively easy caliber to shoot well. The factory 210 grain 41's generally outpenetrate the factory 240 grainers in the 44 mag.

Iam a big 41 mag fan the caliber is light years ahead of the 357 mag and about equal to the 44 mag on Deer an Hogs IME.

Th 41 mag deserves to be much more popular than it is and continues to have a loyal following

It is too bad that the .41 was never more popular as it really is a great round.

I still have three. I have a Taurus Tracker 5-shot, a Jack Wiegand custom with the 8 3/8 barrel and one of the original Performance Shop models. I believe it is numbered 223 out of 500. They all shoot very well. I don't have a 44, never needed one.
