Why so much hype on the 44

I own three 44 Mags they are fine sidearms and shoot well. I've killed deer and blk bears with all of them.
But my question is why so many offerings in a 44 mag and so few in a 45Colt? With today's brass and bullet selection the 45 Colt is at the very least equal to the 44 mag and if you reload superior.BB

I'm kind of new to the game concerning the 45 Colt but I suspect that it's due to the preponderence of older pistols chambered for this round that wouldn't be able to withstand the pressures of souped up loads.

Liability baby. 45 Colt's a great round but you'll have to load your own to get the most out of it...

while I agree with your statement about some older models out there. What I meant by my post was why such a limited offering in new weapons?
I could have worded my post better.BB

How many do you need?

Ruger: Has about the same number of .45 Colts as .44's.

Colt: Hasn't really made much of either.

S&W: Has several .44's but their guns are just a little light in the cylinder thickness area for .45 Colt.

Taurus: Has several of both calibers.

Customs: Lots of them....Bowen, Gary Reder, Limbough....

Rifles: Marlin, Rossi and lots of other imported guns.

In the newer firearms, there is very little difference in capability. In fact, the .45 Colt will do more with lower cartridge pressures. However, we as a group continue to be impacted by the influence the older weapons chambered in .45 Colt which could not hold the heavier loadings. Quite simply, for many years, the .44 magnum was THE high pressure big bore round. Some things just take a long time to undo, if ever. I agree with RJM, which by the way are my initials as well, that there exists a relatively extensive choice in arms chambered for .45 Colt.

Hope this helps or at least doesn't muddy the water.

I buy my brass ( all calibers) from Starline an my componets from a local shop or Midway. With my hunting load of 22.5 gr of H110 and a 300 gr XTP HP MAG I have killed around 30 whitetails an 6 blk bears in the last 10 yrs or so.Sometimes I load a Sierra 300 gr SP with this charge too.
I shoot them thru a 5.5" Ruger Blk Hwk
As far as a gun selection goes I won't buy S&W because of their "cop" out, Taurus has just a 3" version of the 45Colt, custom guns are just that custom not off the shelf, and Rugers...I do not know about Colt's chamberings in 45 Colt. Would be nice to see a Taurus RB in 45 colt but with their 454 not much of a market for it, I guess.
