I just read that this forum has some .41 fans on board. My question goes out to them - Just setup a 14" .41 Mag barrel on a contender frame. What am I looking for 50 yard gunning or can I load a 100-150 yard shooter out of this caliber?

mstarling - ok, now you laid out the challenge:] I shoot Contenders exclusively and have been known to "out-shoot" most long barrels. Just wasn't sure about the .41, this is only the second straight wall case I've worked with.

I shoot a 10" 41 contender have for years. It is shot in for 100yds. With practice you should hold at least a 1 1/2" group Thats what I do with mine.Your longer barrel should do better.I also use a S/W 41 its open sited to shoot 75 yds. &it will as long as I do my part. Im sure you will enjoy yours. GOOD SHOOTING
T/C of all the .41 caliber handguns I shoot I like the .41RemMag best. I am a hundgun hunter only since 1989, first hunting handgun was a S/W 657 been a Contender only hunter since 1993. I currently have 11 guns in .41caliber 7 of which are .41RemMag with 2 of those being 14 inch Contenders. I have a 14 inch bull from BullBerry and a 14 in bull from Fox Ridge. I have always said that my .41 Comtenders shoot so will that I don't usually post group sizes because "most" ""shoters"" just know that the .41RemMag can't shot that well. I get at least MOA out to 200M (I play at shooting steel). I hunt to 125 yards MAX. The guns and caliber will kill much futher out than that I just don't hunt that far out. You shouldn't have any problems with you .41RemMag. The other .41RemMag guns are 2xRuger (1 BH, 1SBH), 2X Taurus (1 425 Tracker, 1RB), and 1 S/W 657 Clasic Hunter from the custom shop (new this Christmas).

The following group was shot with Rem 210 JSP's, a max charge of H110, CCI-350 & Rem cases @ 100 yards from my EA Brown 10" 41mag barrel this summer.
I have always had better accuracy, in my wheel guns, with Sierra's 210 JHC but did not have any on hand this day to shoot. The 170's (also from Sierra) will also shoot extremely well in this barrel. I had a 1 1/2" group for 9 shots @ 100 during sight in just before deer season this year and i wasnt wasting any time shootin those 9 as it as COLD. The 41mag is capable, i have dusted woodchucks as well as larger 4 legged vermin out to 200 yards. As is mentioned above ,its all about practice!

I agree with MSSmagnum in his findings. I have used both wheele guns and 10 and 14 inch T/Cs. The T/Cs are very accurate with the right loads and a good scope. Did a three shot group with the Sierra 170-grain JHPs that measured .777 at 100 yards from the benchrest. I don't like the 170-grain bullets for anything but varmints both 4 legged and 2. The 210-grain JHPs and hard cast 220-grain Keith SWC bullets are the best for big game. I shoot a S&W 657 with a 8 3/8" barrel at present and have made several kills on white tails at ranges beyond 100-yards. Killed a buck at a little over 130-yards, a doe at 187-yards and an other doe at 224-yards. Yes I know that that is sounding like a bunch of bull, but it isn't! Had three witnesses to the two does. The 41 is a great deer killer. It works very well on hogs and with lighter 170-grain bullet make a great groundhog round. The 41 overshadowes the 357 by a long long ways. Practice is everything!
I'm going to have to check my safety deposit box. Mstarling is shooting my gun with my scope and my favorite load.
I've taken numerous deer (mule, whitetail, axis, sika), turkey, jackrabbits and javelina since about 1967 with it.
The .41 Mag. with bullets 200 gr. or heavier is absolute poison on deer-size game. I keep all my shots under 100 yards, and will work hard to get within 75 yards. If I get that close, the .41 does the rest, without fail.
I like loading 175 gr. Sierras for jackrabbits and javelina.

I do not own anything but .41s-- and over the years I have found several loads that shoot well in any of the .41s I own-- Lyman's 410459 will do about 3" at 100yds from scoped 6.5"blackhawk and a 6" DWA also scoped- of course this means a very well cast bullet- ( using 296)I have gotten 2.5" out of the scoped 6" DWA with the 170 Seirra-(using 2400) at 100yards I will look and see if I have records on anything else but all the .41s I have and have had all shot very well -- the limits of the .41 is not normally accuracy

I have had 5 41's, a DWA in 8VH, a 6.5" Blackhawk, a 5.5" and a 7.5" Redhawk and a SW 657 Perf Center LtWt Hunter. I sold the Blackhawk to get the DWA( and after having it rebuilt by DWA 2x) it had the very best single action trigger I have ever felt. I recently sold the DWA to get the SW,

I recently sold the DWA to get the SW, well it was several years ago.. Anyway the 7.5" Redhawk with a 2x scope will shoot under 2" 6 shot groups with H110 and Nosler 210's, it closer to 1" , but no one that wasn't there would believe it anyway. a $1000 wouldn't buy that gun
