In my opinion, hard cast bullets do a excellent job on heavier, tougher game shooting from a pistol if you dont mind the extra lead fouling that comes along with them. My favorite revolver for hogs is a 454 casull but i'm shooting freedom arms 260gr jacketed flat points at 1900 FPS. It kinda has the best of both worlds being it has a very hard lead core with a copper jacket. As far as your velocity goes, heres a link that might be helpful http://matrix.dumpshock.com/raygun/downloads/taylor.html Let us know what you decided and how it works out, John

Quote: That load should work great on hogs. It is only 2-300fps slower than the 475 Linebaugh load that guys are using to take Cape Buffalo with! My current practice load for the 475 Linebaugh is a 400 Lee at nominal 1300 fps. Good Luck on that hunt!!

I've used BB ammo in 4570, 44 Mag, 454, 45 Colt and have found that they all would do the job if you do yours. I wouldn't worry about the speed of the 400 gr bullet as it would still penetrate well. Linebaugh has chronicled 45 Colt loads for his wife in the 900 f/s range and found that the only thing increased velocity in a cast bullet is that it just flattened the trajectory. Way back when, I actually used an older S&W Mod 24 in 44 Sp and Mod 25 in 45 Colt with 250 gr SWC's with no problem. When I finally had a chance to chrono the loads, they came out to 1050 f/s and 1100 f/s respectively. Penetration was through and through. I guess that the cylinder gap in both was a tad much. These were loads that were reccommended by Elmer Keith way back when.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I never really doubted the effectiveness of the load, I was just wondering if any of you have used these loads or loads similar. Will try them out at the range this weekend and then hopefully on hog the following weekend. The problem I run into is choosing which pig iron of mine I should use...it's a major dilemma. Think I'll let the Casull sit this one out. Whitworth
