Has anyone tried the Hogue grips on a Sup. Black Hawk yet?

I'm thinking about getting a finger groove set in camo laminate or black rubber for a 5.5" .44 Ruger.

The question is, "Why"?? Is your hand that big that your knuckles get whacked by the trigger guard? Or, is it that you don't like the gun rotating up in your hand that fast?

All the new 5.5" SBH's don't have the "Old Model" gripframe or "Dragoon", if you will. The main reason SA's are so popular is that they're supposed to rotate up in your hand instead of having the recoil go straight back into your wrist and elbow with the big loads like in the DA revolvers. Those grips you mention will add bulk and everytime you sit down or have to run, the grip handle will bump you more than if it had the regular grips on it.

I've got one on a 10.5" SBH I use for silhouette shooting. It feels much like trying to hold onto a 2X4 with finger grooves carved into it. Having said that though, my knuckles survive the relays just fine.

Thanks for the info, appreciated. Do you have the rubber grips or the wood?

I have hogue grips on a Blackhawk and on a Super Red Hawk and I love them, you can hold onto the gun better (two handed grip) and they absorb some of the recoil, or so it seems.

I have a set in black rubber and my hands are not big enough to find them comfortable. They do, however, make a difference in long sessions at the silhouette range. Just last night I ground off the finger grooves with disastrous aesthetic results but got a better fit.

I have the Houge Mono Grip on my 4 5/8" 45 BlackHawk. I love them and would highly recomend them to anyone. They fit my hand great and provide a consistent hold for consistent long range accuracy. I load my 45 hot and can definatly tell the difference with the Houge grip on.
I was loading 405's trying to see how close I could get to a 475 when I stressed the original cylinder. I'm sure I would have quit long before with the original grips, but the Houge kept things pleasant. I now have a new Biley cylinder in the gun and try to keep things more sane.
I would get the Houge.
