Depends on what I am shooting. My last really heavy session consisted of 25 rounds of .50 Alaskan off the bench and it fatigued me pretty badly. I shot about 60 rounds of .44 mag last weekend and it wasn't a problem and I didn't notice any significant reduction in my shooting ability.

I only load my 454 with 350 at 1350, so it's basically unlimited. 200rnds from the bench in an afternoon isn't any problem. 50-60 rnds with a 475 isn't too bad. I haven't had the 500 JRH long enough to tell.
The last time I really had a problem was with my 45-70 BFR and 405's at 1750. After 25-30 rounds my hand was rather sore and hurt for a couple weeks.
The 700's out of the 500 S&W are rather fun. I just picked up a 600gn mold for it, but haven't shot any yet.
I try to keep things a little more on the mild side now. 440's at 1050 are completely controllable and you can shoot a couple hundred rounds comfortably.

Depends on how you load the .45 Colt. The loads I shoot are heavier recoiling than any of my .44 mag loads. Don't know if I would put the .500 Smith ahead of the .500 Linebaugh or the .460 ahead of the .454 as those two cartridges require oversized revolvers that absorb quite a bit of recoil, whereas, your typical .454 or .500 L will be chambered in a revolver weighing 3.5-lbs or less.

Everybody is different and different guns in different calibers are also differing variables. In heavy 45colt as many as I want. When I test shot a 460 for a weekend it was not the recoil that fatigued me but the obnoxious muzzle bast.In 475L,the one I am shooting now 25-50 would be the thresh hold and one 500L I have shot I would say 25-50 and the one whit has in 500L about 2 cylinder fulls is more than a plenty.

Reguardless of what i am shooting concentration is a main stay, but it will punish you more for not with the bigger bores.I was once told "Shooting big bores is like bull riding, you'd better keep you mind in the middle or it will get in the middle of your mind"...ouch.

That is an awsome looking 500 long. I don't think I'd like to shoot max loads in it, but some 600-650gn bullets at moderate velocity would probably be tons o fun.
I bought a Ruger and Seville 357 Max, but never did anything with them.

Is that front sight an integral part of the barrel?
I saw a 505 Achiles(480 Ruger with a straight through chamber and a heeled bullet) at the Linebaugh seminar 3 yrs ago that looked very similar. Don't remember who's it was, wish I'd taken pics.

Glenn, that gun probably belonged to Cannon Watts. If so, I shot it last year at Raton, New Mexico, nice gun!

The young lady shows proper gun control. Notice how nice it raised her arms instead of "rolling" in the hand?

I don not find the 480R recoil to be bad at all...

But the gun is heavy and the grips are the "recoil reduction" type.

So if you hand load to 480R levels (which are still potent) you should be fine.

I shoot 20-40 at a time... but I shoot my 45ACP and 45 Colt too...

and the 45 ACP will be at least 200 rnds at at time.

So it is normally a long day.

I've shot some maxed out .44 Mag loads out of an Old Vaquero Bisley and the fun disappeared real quick after the second reload.

Shooting my Freedom Arms 475s and/or either of my SRH 480s with each one's 400-grain H110 loads, I can handle three rounds per session - you read correctly.

When shooting my 4227 loads (all else the same) with muzzle velocity dropping to more or less 1100 fps, shooting 40 rounds is as much fun for shot numbers 39 and 40 as for the first dozen.

Parenthetically, I am convinced that 4227 loads are adequate for . . . whatever. And "whatever" includes the grizzly sow that had a terminal disagreement with a shed hunter a couple of weeks ago just down the street.

Hope this helps.
