I've been a fan of the 6.5x55 round for more years than I care to remember and have taken several deer with the cartridge.....in rifle form. A fella that recently harvested a deer with his 15" Encore barrel in 6.5 Swed posted over on www.handgunhunt.com, just click on "Forum" then "Hunting" to reach the forums.....his post is titled, "First handgun deer". I've long lost count of the game I've taken over the years with the 6.5x55 cartridge (in rifle format). And, I've mainly used the 140 grain bullets. But with a handgun, I'd use the 120 grain Nosler BT. I've used it in a 6.5 JDJ (2400 fps), 6.5 TCU (2000 fps) and 6.5x50R Bellm (2450 fps), and it performs extremely well. You should be able to coax 2550 fps out of a 15" barrel with ease, and that will give you positive 275 yard deer medicine with the 120 grain BT. So, if you get acquainted with that load, there'll be no need for your rifle... | |||
