I have a Blackhawk done by Gary Reeder, it is a 510 GNR, there are pic's of it in a thread, here in the handgun hunting area. I love the gun, looks and shoot extremely good. I am thinking of getting another one of Gary Reeder's revolvers, I just don't know what I want yet.

I also have 2 of his mini-beast Encore barrels, another 510 GNR and a 410 GRN. I am getting back my 480 Ruger barrel I sent him to rechamber to 475 Linebaugh, and had a few other things done to it.

Redhawk, you're just a piece of work. Here's a guy who wouldn't THINK of trying a broadhead that didn't have Muzzy etched on it yet he has 15 pieces of shit pistols that he plays mumbly peg in trying to decide which gun he wants to take hunting. Tell these fine people how many DIFFERENT guns I've sighted in with you for you to take on this UPCOMING BEAR HUNT!!! And God knows we still have a few weeks left. That's enough time for him to buy 3 or 4 more to be his "prime" pistol for this scrawny assed bear. ROTFLMAO

Yeah, I'd be interested, too. I've got a few Reeder revolvers and barrels. They are accurate, hard-hitting, rugged, and look good. Reeder warrants for the life of the gun no matter who owns it. I've got revolvers from several other big-name smiths and like the Reeders I've got just as well.

I got lots of reeder guns and I am happy with them all. He may not always be the nicest guy to some, but he gives it to you straight up. There are those that can't handle that! I have a lot of respect for Gary...and he has the best warranty a man can ask for. SWD has sour grapes!

Gumboot458, the 510 GNR is a very good round. It can give you 500 Special to 500 Linebaugh performance. The barrel can be what every you like it to be.

I find it funny that I see my 510 GNR as my light 500, compared to my 500 Mag.

Thanks for the replies all . Tembo , Ravenwolf and SafariKid .., Thanks for posting the pics ...,, They are all beautiful guns ..

Redhawk1 that is kind of what I have in mind for a packin around pistol .. I shot a 500 S&W some before I left Hoonah and was a bit overwhelmed by it . 4" brl full house 400 gr loads ....Good gun if anyone likes it , but it caused me to take another look at John Linebaugh,s therorys on large cal. revolvers ... At the moment I,m getting a 7 1/2" 454 Casul field grade .. But will still need a back pocket pistol ... Something pushing a 350 , but preferably a 400+ gr bullet @ 1200 + fps ,, Seriously considering the 475 Linebaugh in a Casul or even the 500 Wyoming Express ,
Anyone shot one of those ,, .I should probably stick with the 454 or 480 Ruger in an Alaskan model ..?????????????????????????????? But those Gary Reeder guns sure are nice ..And for practicality I like the free wheeling cylinder...Do the ejector rod houseings stay put ????????????????? Thanks .

It's a dumb question, but you know I'm an "off the shelf" pistol buyer. Question is, does Gary build the frames or does he simply modify a factory frame. I notice that none of them have the hammer hump of the Ruger or the curl sweep of the Colt.

Gary modifies Ruger frames. He makes the grip frames and grips, barrels, cylinders, etc. He'll build you a gun in a factory caliber if you want it, or he has some wildcats.

I only have a couple of Contender barrels so far, but I'll get around to a custom revolver eventually (unless I go the Freedom Arms route).

gumboot458, if the 500 Mag was to much, the 510 GNR would be a great place to start. You can load it from 500 Special up to 500 Linebaugh.
With a 350 gr. bullet your starting loads are in the 1100 fps and up to 1300 fps if loaded up to the 500 Linebaugh potential.

As for the ejector rod housing, my flew off on the first day I was shooting it. I did not check the screws while I was shooting it. I call Gary up and he sent me out a new screw and I used red loctite on the screw and I have not had any more problems, the first screw was about 1 1/2 threads shorter than the second one I received. But it is a good thing to check the screws any time you are shooting the heavy recoiling handguns.

George, carlos111 has it right. You know how smooth my 510 GNR is, he does a great job and the gun is very accurate.

george,

Of the photos I can see the hammers best, those are Bisley style hammers. They are different from the Blackhawk and Colt hammers.

Ruger Bisleys are the preferred revolver style for most of the big bore conversions because they tend to handle the heavier recoil from those calibers.

MS Hitman. you are right, the recoil feels a lot better with the grip that Gary Reeder uses. I also like the hammers a lot more. The standard Black Hawk grip is a little harder on the hand with heavy loads.

I personally prefer a more minimalist look. Can Reeder build a gun without all of that gingerbread scroll work on his guns?

Linebaugh performance out of the .510 GNR? Can you push a 525 grain bullet at 1100 fps with that short case? Just asking!

Whitworth, contact Mr Reeder, I am more than sure he will answer your question.

For me, I am using 350 gr. bullets in my 510 GNR, if I want to use big bullets, I will jump to my 500 Mag.

And yes,Gary Reeder can build the gun without any engraving at all, it is to the customers liking that he does the work. If you don't want any, he will leave it off.

Maybe a direct call from you to him can clarify it, and he can answer all your questions. But Mr. Reeder is the one the suggests the 510 GNR can do 500 Linebaugh performance. But I don't know about the 525 gr. bullets.

Whitworth, this is from his web site.

Our newst is also our biggest, the 510 GNR. It is in the center with a .50 Special on the left and .500 Linebaugh on the right. A true 510 caliber, this cartridge is 1/10 of an inch shorter than the 500 Linebaugh and brass is available. It can be loaded up to the 500 Linebaugh or loaded down to the 50 Special ballistics. Best in a 5 shot revolver.
