Those of you who wear and hunt small game with 22 LR revolvers - how do you carry your ammunition? I don't want to dump cartridges into a pouch. And holster belt loops are something I try hard to avoid. Are there cartridge companies whose non-bulk 22 ammunition is packaged in boxes that have individual cartridge holes? Are there reloading strips available similar to Bianchi Speed Strips for 38/357 cartridges? It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. Sam Levinson

There are two ways I've been doing this for several decades..one way is with revolvers like the H&R 999 and the other way is with bottom feeders like the Model 41, the Challenger II, the Woodsman and the Hi-Standard. Revolvers go in a hip holster with a belt that has .22 loops. Not much need for spare ammo that way, but I carry along spares anyway in one of those yellow plastic boxes with the sliding tops that CCI .22 Magnums come in. I have some anyway so they're free. And they're easy to reload from. One holds plenty, but fits OK in any coat pocket. For autos I simply buy lots of spare mags and load them before the hunt. Extra spares to re-charge the mags are also carried, though seldom needed, in those same CCI boxes. For the Model 41 I take along 5 mags or 50 rounds. Btw, the H&R 999 is a top-break 9 shot. That alone helps on the ammo question. I find that feature so convenient that if I were to buy a different .22 revolver, I'd go with another high capacity model, like the S&W 9 shot or the 12 shot SAA from USFA. IMO that one's real interesting - http://www.usfirearms.com/cat/12-22.asp

I do carry my spare ammo in a pocket. This is no handicap to me when woodswalking with my Contender or Bisley Single-Six. Like Shack I have a mess of spare magazines for my pistols but I can usually find a break in the action to top up the one in my M41 or PPK/S.

I have a Lawrence Leather (long gone) .22 holder that goes on the belt via a belt loop in back. It is a box shape that holds 2 regular boxes of .22 shells and has a flap that covers the top. I'm sure any person good with leather could make one up. I usually just stick the CCI box in my day pack and call it good.

HKS makes speedloaders for most revolvers, including rimfires. I have one for my Taurus 94 (which is supposed to also fit the H&R999) but I hardly ever use it or take it out in the field. I simply put a box of .22lr in my pocket and happy with that. I do like the idea of a leather box shaped cased, however. .

I sometimes use 35 MM lastic film carriers. Also I have 2 "devices" that work real good. The first is made by AMMO PACK Inc. It is plastic and holds 2 collums of 22 LR shells and will dispense one round at a time. It will fit on your belt. I also have another plastic "device" made by Blackei Collins called the CATCH 22. It holds 50 rounds, and has a sliding lid. It is designed to give you five rounds at a time, or you can get as many as you want in multiples of 5. On my Browning 22 Semiauto I put the shells in base first and I can just hold the "device" against the hole in the stock and put in 5 rounds at a time. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

MTM makes moulded plastic ammo wallets for the rimfire ammunition. I use one of these - it's very durable and totally silent. Keeps dust and dirt off the bullets, protects them from dings and dents, and rides nicely in my pocket. Midway stocks them. This photo from the midway site. My dad is the gizmo guy. I try to stay simple and just keep extra ammo in my pocket.

I have CCI ammo that came in a plastic box with slots for each round. Stingers in 50 round boxes and the high velocity round in 100 round boxes.

I use the factory CCI plastic boxes, with labels removed and properly labled if I put other ammo in them, my trick is to cut a small peice of foam to go in the bottom, this makes them quiet, as well as when you push the lid back, the rounds kind of pop-up so you can grab them. Cheap and works great.

I bet CCI never thought so many would find other uses for their .22 boxes. My supply of them is only because of doing a lot of .22 Magnum handgunning, but then I found all other sorts of uses...hardware, screws, miscellaneous parts, gun cleaning supplies, carrying cases for .22lr etc etc. For the revolvers I simply enjoy carrying them in a leather holster with the bullets in the belt loops..it makes you feel more the part or something..

M1 carbine 15 round mag pouch works great for carrying two 50 round boxs. They also work with 2 50 round plastic boxs.

It depends on whether one is going out more to "hunt" or more to "plink". I recently sold a buckmark silhoutette model, and I'd just grab the gun with the loaded magazine, as I'd never shoot all 10 rounds. If you are wanting to carry rounds, the most compact way I've found is to have the 22s in the small cardboard boxes o9f 50, and it fits right into a speedloader pouch: Ruger 10/22 mags fit into these pouches nicely as well, and as mentioned earlier I've also used 35mm film cans but I use those for 22 magnums, and hey, they fit into these pouches too. for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside
