You're kidding. I am sorry to hear that. I don't like to see businesses in the industry go under.

Does anyone want to sell me 20 bullets if they have any?

His molds that I have are:
.458-710
.500-600
.500-700
.512-500 HP or FN
.510-880

I also have a .475-500 with 70% and 90% meplat.

My youngest son just earned his Eagle Scout and wants to make some money to go to the next National Scout Jamboree. So he's going to cast bullets and lube them with Carnauba Red.
He wan't his biz name to be LLBB, Little Lar's Big Bullets.
We'll probably put them up on Gunbroker.

Let me know if what you're looking for is in that list.
If things go well, I'll order some other molds to fill in the blank spots

Lar, I need some of those .500-700 grainers -- roughly 20 - 25. If you want to cast some up for me, I would be happy to buy them.

Any wonder WHY he went out of business? I guess there was very little demand for the unnecessary heavy for caliber bullets he was hawking. A complete joke. I figure the last article Taffin wrote about this nonsense finally did him in, in addition to getting ass chewings from some custom handgun builders. Please, don't bother telling me these excessively heavy for caliber bullets are worth the trouble or potential damage to your gun....they simply are not. Please, don't tell me you know more about shooting revolvers than John Taffin. If you do, you missed your calling. The guy needs to invent something to add to the shooters pleasure...not take it away.

First of all I am not even remotely afraid of damaging any of my handguns. I need the bullets for a research project. Nothing more, nothing less. Of course these bullets were nothing more than a novelty. That should have been clear long before Taffin's nod to the obvious. But of course, folks always think that if more is better, much more must be much more better...... hilbily

Has there been damaged guns from shooting these heavy weights? Is it a tweaked base pin from the torque of launching the extra heavy bullet?

Decent prices to feed my 450 NE in weights not specifically for a 45-70, he will be missed.

Marko, let me check, I may have some left in the reloading room.

I have shot quit a few of them in my 500 Mags. I loaded some at 1200 fps and some light loaded at 950 fps. There was a big difference in the felt recoil in the two. The 950 fps were actually fun to shoot and did a lot of damage to the small logs I was shooting. The 1200 fps were lets say a real handful, and kind of unpleasant to shoot.

Taffin, Taffin, Taffin. In all the years I have forced myself to see what he says, the too heavy boolit story was right. I really have to praise him for a change.
No, it was not the story that did in Ranger Rick. It was the excess boolit weight with no market.

We're speculating why Ranger Rick went out of business, but it could very well be simply a result of this lousy economy.......

Maybe so. But every business is based on need or use.
Ever see a toilet maker go out of business?
How long would a magnum toilet last that was so large it took up half the house and you used a float to poop and chains to keep you from being flushed? homer

Guess that would depend on how comfortable that magnum toilet would be. I would put up with the size if that toilet was fully loaded! dancing

How in the hell did we get on the topic of toilets????????????

Just so their is no more speculating, Richard just wanted to stop casting and get on with his life. He still is casts for himself. It had nothing to do with Tiffin's writings, nor did it have to do with lack of sales. Just thought I would clear that up. Cool

No, the article didn't hurt.
Maybe putting too much time, money and effort into wrong ideas did.
I am sure he had decent stuff without expanding into areas with no merit.
He could recover but maybe he just wanted to retire from all the work too.
Anyone that casts boolits just does not want to do it more then a few times a month. What a boring, boring job!

Hi everybody. I just got back from the Big Bore seminar in Cody. I talked with John on this subject and he said that he did get one damaged gun back, but it was from shooting homemade solid brass bullets with a solid shank and no driving bands. It damaged the cylinder and barrel, but it was not a cast bullet that did it.
I also talked with Tony Grant of Grizzly Custom, he said he has not seen nor heard of any damaged guns from shooting excessivly huge bullets. He said he shoots 525gn cast in his 500 Linebaugh.
There was a guy there with several huge custom BFRs, 50 Alaskan, 50-90... some of his loads were useing 650gn cast at max pressures and hasn't seen any problems.

Just thought I'd pass this along. FWIW

How was the seminar, Lar?

It was excellent Smiler
One guy showed up with a 4 bore and 700NE double rifles. He had a couple smaller bolt actions in 600NE and 505 Gibbs also.
There was a wide range of guns and lots of ammo to shoot, single shot and lever action rifles and revolvers of every shape and size...

The Prime Rib buffet at the Irma was rather nice. Thick mouth watering slabs that you could cut with a fork...

If anyone has thought about going, just put it on the calender for next year and make it happen.
