I've never used the Hornady or Lee dies in 480, but I have been loading a few with RCBS. First off, they are not carbide. This meaning having to lube cases. Second, the bullet I've been loading is a Hornady 325 XTP. The seater plug doesnt fit this bullet very well at all and leaves a very noticable ring cut into the bullet. I called RCBS about this and they said another plug would run me about 15 bucks shipped. So in a nutshell, i'd look somewhere else for dies if I had to do it over again.

Ark fireman, I too have gotten away from RCBS dies long ago. They are in the dark ages as far as proper dimensions go. Hornady, Lee, Redding and Lyman have stayed up to date on what makes bullets shoot. I still use RCBS presses though.

I use RCBS for just about everything. Carbide is the way to go with pistol dies. Get the LEE factory crimp die if it is availible for 480. It makes a huge difference in my 454 loads.

Antonio,
I have the Hornady L-N-L AP and really like this press. I purchased it from a buddy who didn't like it (for rifle cartridges) and didn't have pistols. Once it's setup (initially about 20 mins) you can really crank out quality ammo with it. He isn't too mechanically inclined and just didn't have the thing adjusted right.
As for dies, any of the major brands will work with this press if you buy extra L-N-L adapters. I have/use Lee, Hornady New Dimension (love these!), RCBS, Redding and Lyman. I don't have any problems with any of them.
I have the case activated powder measure setup on my L-N-L and it works great. Both pistol and rifle ammo are accurate enough for what I use it for. Changing from one caliber to the next is simple and quick. I had been looking at the more expensive Dillions but this press came at a really really good deal ($100.00). It's safe to say that my buddy never really loaded any amount of ammo on it, just tinkered with it. Oh well, his loss my gain. Email me directly if you have anymore questions. Johnny K.
