Two weeks ago, I sent my 50AE BFR back to have a 500JRH cylinder made for it and an octagon barrel put on. They called today to say it was done and emailed some pics. I can't wait till it gets here.

Lar, what is barrel length and weight of your BFR? Thanks, Onty.

I asked for a 5.25" bbl. I guess they measure from the front of the frame, so that should make it 6". I'll measure and weigh it when it get's here.

The Precision Center guns are measured from the forcing cone, while the regular production guns are measured at the frame. "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." That statement peaked my interest, so I had to go and check my Blackhawks and Redhawk. They are all 7.5" from forcing cone to muzzle.

For some unknown reason, BFR made the decision to measure from the frame. Strange. But, all of the ones I have shot have been so accurate, that I won't nitpick! BFR is the only one that I am aware of that measures from the frame and that is only with the over the counter production guns. The ones from the Custom shop are measured from the forcing cone, which is the correct method _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

OK. I kinda figured it was something like that. It is pretty odd though, that they use different measurements for production vs custom. Makes one wonder about the reasoning behind some of the business decisions that some companies make.

How heavy of bullets have you shot in the JRH? Did you have any problems with stability? Just looking for a place to start with. I've shot 450 SWC and 440 LFN in the 50AE cases with good results, but was thinking of a 500gn bullet around 1000fps-ish

I shoot 425 and 440 with a 78% meplat and have broken the main support bone in the shoulder of an Asian Buffalo and the bullet exited the animal through the off shoulder _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

It's Here! I don't know if the picture will show it or not, but the 500 JRH cylinder has a small 500 next to each chamber. The barrel is 5.25" long. It weighs 3# 4oz My 6.5" 475 BFR weighs 3# 7.2 oz My 5.5" 45 Bisley weighs 2# 14.2oz It looks like a 50AE seat and crimp die will work for a crimp die for the JRH.
