I am going to scope my FA Model 83 454 and wanted opinions on the best scope mounting system. I noticed all of Bob Baker's guns have the Lovell scope mounts. Does anyone have any experience with these, or any other mounting systems you like better?

I have one of the new FA 2008's which I had rechambered to 378GNR, and it's equiped with a Lovell scope mount. This is a heavy recoiling chambering and I haven't had a single issue with the Lovell -- it seems like a great mount, it's heavy enough for the job the scope can't move under recoil.

I also have a half dozen regular FA revolvers in heavy recoil chamberings, but all of those are equiped with Leupold dovetail mounts, IMHO the very best handgun scope mounting system available anywhere -- solid steel and designed so that the scope simply cannot move under recoil.

I have the Lovell on the 2008 because there was no Leupold yet available for the new FA offering and it does fine, but I'd still prefer the Leupold because the ring design makes it easier to change out scopes -- half the number of screws -- and because the Leupold set-up is smaller and lighter than the Lovell.

Each to his own, but I'd go with the Leupold system -- I have it on at least 50 heavily shot and hunted guns and have yet to have the 1st complaint with it. But, the Lovell isn't a poor 2nd choice either.

When you get bored with life, start hunting dangerous game with a handgun.

OHH, Thanks for the input. I'll definately look into the Leupold mount.

Leupold dual dovetail +1

Tembo, I was in your neck of the woods last week on business. Will be again the 3rd week of August. Staying at the Omni Hotel downtown St Louis. Not as nice as the Drury on the square though, but it wasn't available for us. Those people sure take their Cardinals pretty serious.
