7-2-2010 Ammo velocity testing 500 Linebaugh Barrel: 7.5" ■ Twist: 1-18" ■ Primer: CCI 350 ■ Bullet Dia: 0.511" No. 9 350 CP WFNGC 26.6 1,337 29.5 1,485 34,120 1.737 These bullets start with a .41" CALIBER metplat. Recoil Energy of 25 foot pounds, and Recoil Velocity of 21 fps. 350 grain AA9 1040 1071 1477 1242 1121 Need a wider sample, and more time to establish anything on this. .475 Linebaugh 7.5" FA 83 No. 9 325 HDY XTP 27.0 1,430 30.0 1,589 49,340 1.739 Recoil Energy of 29 foot pounds, and Recoil Velocity of 24 fps. 325’s 1544 1492 1492 1482 1519 325’ Are considerably quieter then the 275’s. The 325's seem to burn the No.9 consistently, and in the 7.5" barrel I have. Hit of the three. 275 grain bullet 1560 fps 28 grains of AA 9 Recoil Energy of 25 foot pounds, and Recoil Velocity of 23 fps. 275’s 1441 1534 1596 These suckers move, boom, and I think would leave a big hole. Recovered a couple bullets. Recoil is below 454, with 454 type energy, and a bigger bullet. Need to figure out what's going on with the 350's in .511" Marko: You should really sell me that .454 that's sitting in the case. I can't find one in this stupid state. Also saw some pictures of you in one of those magazines. Fun stuff, and a wonderful day and trip. GS PS Pig appears to be on the menu. PPS Shooting feeling. Grips on the Max, Bisley, are fine at this level. Don't feel like somebody hit my hand with a baseball bat anymore, and, didn't wear shooting gloves. The .475s are just fine. 325's burn powder, 275's have more boom, and, I think unburnt powder coming out the barrel. I think in the future, judging from these numbers, that I'm sticking with 4227.

Sorry, but the .454 is not for sale! It is cool, huh?? How does it do with 420 grainers??!! What is the accuracy like with these loads?? Have you tried 296/H110? That is all I use in my .475. Your gun is VERY nice. Pretty much perfect. 420's MY FA 83 .475 CUSTOM BY JRH has shot one hole at 25 yards, cloverleafed @ 50 according to the gunmaker. V110 was the powder, IIRC. I was told that 4227 metered better then H110, and was more consistent, at least according to Dillon. On the other hand, the only thing I used to load my 45 Heavy Seville loads with was H110. Accuracy? I was terrible. Minute of elephant at that range. I was glad I didn't hit the chronograph. At least with these loads I can shoot the gun more. I'll get to the range this week. Did dig out a couple 275's and a 350 grain .510" Seems the petals are blown all the way back, and the bullets still are nearly an inch across. Also found a 1" x 1" copper fragment, probably from the 325's, that would have been really scary going through anything. So, I ended up pretty happy with the 275's and the 325's. When I get the guns back, the .475's, I'll do a bit more shooting. The .510's well see how they shoot despite serious velocity problems. I've only got 245 more to go.

Marko, you inspired me. Since I can't find a gun, I'll just change one of the FA 83's to .500JRH. 5.5" barrel band, custom grips and trigger already done. Keep the 757 barrel and cylinder, for a quick switch;-). Hope to have it next week. GS

Always wondered what a 275 grain .475 Linebaugh HP would look like, if it was expanded properly, not blown back by dirt. Here it is: Imagine getting hit with that at 1600fps?
