Well after taking 3 deer (1 8 pt buck and 2 doe) with my 7mm Super Bower I went back to basics and used my Ruger SBH 7.5" 44 Mag with open sights. A buddy of mine pushed a nice 130 lb doe past me in the woods and I took the shot at 35 yards. The Speer 270 gr bullet went through both lungs with out hitting any bone, liquidating the lungs, then left a 1-1.5" exit. I was impressed. This is my first experience with jacketed bullets in a straight wall pistol cartridge as I usually use heavy for caliber LBT style bullets in my all my revolvers from 357 up through 454. The doe ran 25 yards and dropped. This load used 20.5 grs of H110, CCI mag primer and, of course the Speer Gold Dot. Good hunting all and stay safe...RW

Congrats on your season!!! Sound like that the Gold Dot bullet compares similar to the LBT. NOw the question is which bullet do you use now? (Not a bad choice) Hcliff

Which one to use is a hard choice. Deep down I'm really a Hard Cast (case?) type of guy so I'll probably stick with my LBTWFNs and LFNs. But it's nice to know both work well and I'm really going to start trying different jacket bullets to see how they perform. For the last two years I really worked to get broadside lung shots on deer (shooting several during the regular season and on crop damage permits) with the LBTs and I really can see no difference in how far the deer travel after being hit, though the Speer bullet did leave a larger exit and also a fair amount of blood shot meat. With my cast I can eat up to the hole as the saying goes.

Ravenwolf I know exactly what you mean. I have been playing arouns with the Barnes XPB and the Nosler Partition to see if I can get a better bullet also. I was instrested because I had that bullet but was worried that the Gold Dot wouldn't work as well as the WFN. The nose isn't as big. Sound like you are having a great season. Stay safe and have fun.
