You're starting out with a half-inch diameter bullet!! No need for an expanding bullet -- LOL! jumping

Why not make it an inch?

If I want to just use a hardcast I'll stick to my 454 casull. 340 at 1350 and a.410 meplat.

I just like the way heavy hardcast bullets penetrate.......

Whitworth, I have to agree, I love them hard cast bullets...

I am actually shooting this at 1930 fps in a handi-rifle.

I figure this would be fine for just about any game but I am planning on taking this brown bear hunting this spring.

I did get some posts on another forum from a guy who has shot up to 300 pound pigs with the 275 xpb and has not recovered a bullet yet. He did not see a need to go to the heavier xpbs.

If you heard good things about them, give them a try and let us know the results.

I've been looking for reloading data on these Barnes XPB bullets. Didn't want to buy the 4th edition nor join the Barnes' Copper Club online, just to get the same load data that came with the 20 bullets I got.

I purchased 185gr .45 cal XPB bullets. I plan on using them in a gun chambered for .460 rowland, but Barnes doesn't have any data for the .460 rowland.

What I have noticed is that solid copper bullets are a bunch longer than the same weight hard cast or jacketed bullets... so load data is even more critical. I did however compare the data for .45ACP that was included with the Barnes bullets I bought and data I had on hand. Powder weight range for the 185 XPB bullets seem to mirror 230gr jacketed rounds, so that's a starting point. Guess its time to invest in a chronograph.

Look at Hodgdon(dot)com for load data.

Several powder manufacturers may have barnes data online.

Here is an exit wound on a hog that was created by a 400 grain WLF as loaded by Double Tap Ammo. The penetration is great and the damage created by the flat point hard cast is awesome.

I'd be more inclined to use those WFNs! They look good and will punch right through damn near anything!! Have you done any load development with them yet? Please keep us posted.

I just got them yesterday.

The meplat is .390 which may not quite be a wide flat nose.

The meplat on my 340 grain 454's is .400 those are definately WFN for its caliber.

RMiller, I have used the 275gr. on deer. They work great. Punched a hole all the way through and the exit hole was very large. Never found the bullet. The 375 should give you the same results.

No doubt the XPB will work real well on deer. They're not particularly densely built animals. Let us know how they shoot when you load some up.

I just bought a box of the 200 grain XPB's for my new redhawk 4". These are the ones that function at 44 special velocity. They will open at 750 with I think 1100 being the high end. I will load them at somewhere around 1000 fps. They should make some fine woods carry loads. I think they are the same ones as used in the Thunder Ranch defense loads. Just call Ty or Dave at Barnes for data. DW

I had some 375X's loaded to 1800 out of my 6 1/2" PC Smith and cant wait to see what they can do on "something"! My pal shot a Black Bear with the 275 gr ones and it knocked the lil bear(200pds) back at least 15ft with the tumbling and a Huge Hole in and out! He loves them, but I think I may like the 375s beter for larger game!

SAFARIKID,

What powder do you use? I could only get 1935 fps out of my 22" handi rifle with max of lilgun. A max of h110 gave me 1825 fps.
