I am Thinking of taking the plung and going stricktly handgun hunting for whitetail deer this year, with either the 44mag or the 454. I have not made up my mind yet. I was wandering I think wich ever cal. I go with I want a Red dot scope and dont have alot of experiance with them do any of you have a paticular Red Dot that works well? I don't know wheather to go with a regular Red Dot scope or a Bushnell Holo sight or something else. I used to hunt alittle with a 44 redhawk and a 2x tasco pistolscope but the eyereleaf was always a problem shot fine on the range but in a hunting sittuation you dont have time to move it around looking for that perfect spot so you can see out of your scope.

Ultradots are popular with bullseye shooters that mount it on the slide. On my old .44 Smith 29, I have a Tasco PDP model and it holds up fine. Be careful of which model though, some are not rated for anything bigger than .357 and cheap (<$40) ones are best left to .22s. Some of the newer ones have a feature to turn off the scope after a certain amount of time and that will save batteries because you will leave it on when you put it away. It's just a matter of time. I always carry spares.
