Shot this sow on Friday night in North Carolina right about midnight. Was using a Ruger Bisley Hunter in .44 Mag stoked with Double Tap 320 grain WFNs (we chrono'd them at 1,350 out of another revolver recently). THe shot was right at 50 yards offhand and she came in at 225-lbs. I used an Elusive Wildlife green light that I had attached to the side of my barrel.

Thank you sir! I was hunting out of a stand earlier in the evening and took a food break back at camp. When I was heading back to my stand on foot, I came across a group of hogs feeding. I hadn't intended to use the light in an offhand shot, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!

That light was the larger of the two that I have and meant for a rifle, but it's so powerful that I used it instead of the smaller, lighter, and handier light.....

Nice porker! Did she have piglets with her? I have only seen one female that large in all my years of hunting hogs here in TX; she had no pigs with her, and it was clear she had never nursed. Typically they don't get that big because they stay pregnant!

Thank you! Actually, she was carrying and she is a personal record for me: six pigs, one round! Big Grin

I'll post a side shot of her later and you can see just how big bodied she was.

Evidently!

I took one shot with it on Friday afternoon at a target at the 50 yard mark and it was dead center and about an inch high. I called it good and put it away till I went out that late afternoon.

Lar, it's nice being able to hunt big game all year round and not have to wait for the seasons to get your fix!

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, Seasons44!

The outfit is called Hog Heaven (www.hogheavenoutfitters.com) and is located in Johnston County, NC (right off of I95). It's a free ranging hunt, and not a gimme. I hunted there at least a half a dozen times there last week.

Here's a picture of the light setup I used -- except for the light itself -- I used a bigger one that the one shown. Worked like a charm!

Here's a side view.....

I centered on what I assumed was the hogs back not willing to chance moving the shot closer to shoulder as I didn't know what direction she was facing!

Whit, excellent! nice setup & it sounds like you made a great shot on her.
Have you had any trouble with the Ultra Dots, I tried one for a week but the dot was "fuzzy", they told me it was because I wore glasses, I said well....I wear glasses, so they took it back. I've heard others have had very good luck with them.

Dick, I have had nothing but great luck with Ultradots! There is no other red dot type sight I know of that can withstand the beatings these things can take. They are rugged and very reliable. I used to wear corrective lenses with my ultradots but never experienced any fuzziness.

Dick,
I've been using 1" Ultra Dots on several handguns for about 20 years, and they have stood up well. As you know, I wear glasses, and I've always had a bit of a fuzzy dot (unlike an Aimpoint, for me), but despite the irregular fuzz, stuff keeps falling over dead, so I live with it.

tradmark -- not my idea! The light and mount come from a company called Elusive Wildlife Technology out of Texas. It works great!
