I can't find a good place to ask this, so I thought I would try here. Does anyone have ballistics for 500 magnum ammo fired out of the new S&W 2 3/4" extreme survival revolver. I can not find info on it any where. I would be interested in any billet wts. or any brands of ammo fired from the short barrel. Thanks for any help and information.

bfrshooterThe velocity loss, the inability to burn any powder charge, the extreme muzzle blast and noise would make it a poor choice.

MS HitmanNow, don't hasty bfr; the muzzle blast and noise may just scare the hell out of a bear.

bigdoggy700I can't believe that there is much difference between this bl. length and the 4" model. Remember, the 4" model only has a 3" barrel ans a 1" brake. This gun does kick more with no muzzle brake.

jro45With my 500 Mag with 8.25" barrel I get 1620 FPS
with the 400gr bullet. There is a way to figure
out what a 3" barrel would do.I figured 589 FPS
with 400gr bullet. Thats with the same load I used for 1620 FPS.

MS HitmanI can't believe anyone actually wants one of those things with a barrel that short. Come on; where do you mount the axle on it?

ManCannonIn my 4" 500S&W, I get 1725fps using the 275gr Barnes XPB, and I get 1550fps using the 385gr Rem CLHP. I'm guessing that the 2.75" barrel is going to be quite close in ballistics... Which, by the way, blows the Ruger Alaskan away. The 500 S&W is truly an awesome cartridge, and I'm quite happy to own one. Those that bash the 500S&W, are generally the ones that don't have one...

With my smaller grips on the 2 3/4" 500, it weighs 53 oz. That is heavy, but not unreasonable to me. My 5.3" LAR grizzly in 50 A.E. weighs 54 oz. and I have been enjoying it for over 10 years. I think if people practice enough they can become quite competent with this gun. I enjoy shooting mine....jro45, I think 589 ft/sec is way to low, that would only be 307 ft. lbs, no way.

I think you are way off, my 4 inch is still over 1300 fps and that is an actual 3 inch barrel with a 1 inch comp. So I am guessing it would be real close with the 2 3/4 inch barrel.

bfrshooterHave any of you seen the night shots of the .500 Smith with an 8-3/8 barrel? I would love to see it with the short barrel!

MS HitmanGuys,
My last post was a joke. Lighten up! I've got a .500 Linebaugh and a .54 Scout muzzleloading pistol, so I don't really want a .500 S&W. I've got things covered in the half inch plus category.
As far as proficiency, I believe I've got that covered.
So not to worry, there is no case of X-frame envy on this end.

jro45The way I figured it out was I took 1620 divided
by 8.25 and then multiplied by 3 and thats what I got but then you got to consider the powders explosive properties. I didn't say I was right.
