How do the ballistics of these compare out of a 5" barrel? Interested in hunting whitetails with a 1911 style inside of 50yds.

ballistics are to close to call
accuracy wise the 10mm is miles ahead
bullet run-out on the 400cb [even factory loads] is a big problem, as is bullet creep.
little short neck of the 400 is the problem.
10mm with 200gr bullets at 1200fps+ worked well for me this year.
if you decide to go with the 400 still stay with the 200gr bullets. they penetrate as well as 240gr 44mag bullets.
