I have a SS SBH 44 mag with 7.5 inch barrel that I want to put a scope on. Other than the type like the Bsquare that has the barrel clamp, what are my options. I heard that the barrel clamp types aren't very stable and will hurt the finish on the gun. All comments or advise on this subject will be appreciated.

I would have any good gunsmith drill and tap the top strap with out breaking through and you will have a great setup.

You might end up being dollars ahead to just sell your SBH and buy a SBH hunter that has the integral barrel scope base and comes with rings. Add the price of a base and rings and gunsmithing to fit it and you're approaching $200.

Weigand or EGW base from Brownells, $30. Burris "Z" rings from Midsouth, $18. Or Warne rings, $22. Cost of drilling and tapping 2 holes, around $20 per hole. Believe it or not, with care, you can drill and tap it yourself. Anyway, it will cost less then $100.
I have drilled and tapped all of my own guns. Until I got a good drill press I even done a few by hand.
The Hunter model is a great gun, but I do not like Ruger rings for a heavy scope if there is a lot of recoil. They work fine for a red dot or light weight scope though.

Thanks eveyone for the ideas and advise.

Brian, is that base made for the SBH or is it just a mount that happens to work on the SBH ? What's the part number. Thanks.

Stay away from the B-square, mine would not stay on with heavy loads. My dad uses the weaver, and it has held up fine. He does not shoot it alot and his loads are not real heavy.

Tank, I have the same base on my Blackhawk. It is a great base but the rings are so close together that almost none of the red dot scopes will fit between them even with an extension ring. The Wiegand base will allow you to mount anything you want. Do some careful thinking about what scope you want on your gun.

bfrshooter, thanks for the info. I probably will be using a red dot. Do you have the part number for the Wiegand base ? I could not find it on Bronells website.

Yes, the number is 957-124-100 for black and 957-124-101 for silver. If you know a gunsmith, the discount price is $23.96.

I have the Weaver setup on a 6.5" Blackhawk .41 Magnum. All loads going through the gun start at 1300 fps including some 300 grain bullets at almost 1400 fps...it has never moved.

What Paul said. The built in mount is absolutely bullet proof.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.
