I sold my 454 Casull to get a Taurus 480 and never looked back. My 480 is a 6.5 inch RB and I handload extensively for it. A big plus is that the round can be loaded out to 475 Linebuagh length and fit in the Taurus cylinder. If you want the power of a 454...it is definitely there and the gun will take it. Lil'gun will drive a 400 grainer 1450 fps at 480 pressures when COL is 1.810, like the Linebaugh. Sure, that's a big OUCH, but so is the max load for the Casull. Now, a primed 454 case weighs about 125 grains and a 480 runs 153 grains, in spite is being a lot shorter. The 480 has never even come close to sticking, in spite of some very hot experiments. All this is well beyond the intended application of the 480, which is to drive a 325 gr bullet 1325 fps with a modest powder charge duplicating the recoil of heavy 44 mag loads. This it does with such a big yawn that it brings to mind the 416 Rigby in a rifle...low pressure, tolerable recoil and power to spare... | ||
